I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Pumps my 1-1/2hp pool pump (Centurion CF11 N1 1A) went out when I fired it up (12 years old) Looking at maybe upgrading to energy efficient pump... considering Pentair or maybe Sta-Rite. Your Pentair WFE-26 (547.99) and WFE-6 (515.99) seem very similar but they are described as "up-rate" (26) and "full-rate" (6). What is difference and do you think these are similar to my current pump. (24700 gal pool; 230/115 pump we are wired for 230)Other or better suggestions? Last year I picked up a used sa

Based on your pool size you need a Gallon per minute rating (GPM) of 52 GPM's to turn your pool over in an 8 hour time period, I show that your current Challenger pump outputs roughly 60 GPM's and we show that the part # you provided for your current pump is for a 1 HP. The sand filter you have has a GPM rating or 62 GPM's where the large Sta Rite filter has a GPM rating of 110 GPM's. The uprated WFE-26 pump outputs a GPM of 80 and the Full Rate WFE-6 pump has a GPM of 100. With all of this being said I would suggest going with the WFE-26 if you are going to stay with your current set up and swap out to the Sta Rite filter as the current sand filter can only handle 62 GPM's if you do intend on adding water features or see the need for the increased GPM's in the near future then I would go with the WFE-6 and swapping out to the S8M150. Lastly note that the amp draw is less on the WFE-26 so your operational cost would be roughly 20% less then that of the WFE-6. You may view or p

Can you help me find replacement seals for this Pentair Whisperflo pump?

We have 2 different tune-up kits for the Pentair Whisperflo. The first one is for a standard pools and the second one is for saltwater pools. The saltwater tune-up kit comes with a heavy duty shaft seal and can be used on all Pentair Whisperflo pumps.

The Energy Efficient Whisperlo replacement for the Marlow 1.5 J75EC RG Argonaut Pump would be the Pentair Whisperflo WFE-26 (011518) Please note that the plumbing ports on the Whisperflo are in a slightly different location than the Marlow Argonaut so you may some minor re-plumbning.

Is this pump available with a choice of a square flange (like the Pentair SuperFlo), in addition to the flange shown on the picture? If so, any advantage to either flange? Any price difference? Also, am I correct thinking that this pump with its 2" ports would allow better water flow than the SuperFlo (with smaller ports), used on a system having all 2" pipes ?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/17/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

This pump model does have square flange motors and also is set up for 2 inch plumbing. There is no advantage in either square or round flange motors. 2 inch plumbing would allow better flow on higher horse power model pumps.

What is the power consumption on the WFE-4? Currently have one that pulling 2KWH of power. Which seems really high to me and not very energy efficient.
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/10/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

The pump should normally be pulling 1.7KWh. The input voltage may be running high. This would cause the KWh to increase. If the amps are higher than nameplate amps but the voltage is acceptable, WITH THE POWER OFF, inspect the motor and the pump for mechanical obstructions that could cause an overload. We recommend contacting Pentair if you are still having issues.

This will depend on exactly which model whisperflo you are referring to and the energy costs in your market. Here is our "how to calculate the cost of running a pool pump" page that can assist you in calculationg those comparisons.

I have an old dial based timer control for my WhisperFlo WFE-6 pump. I heard that to use this motor properly, I need to replace it with electronic timer control, such as Intermatic P1353ME. Is it true and if yes, what advantages I can get from this timer?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/20/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Dmitry - A simple dial timer is all you need for a single speed pump like the WFE-6. A digital timer like the PE1353ME would be ideal for 2-speed pumps or if you wanted to connect other equipment to the timer.

There are many models to choose from in a whisperflo 1.5HP. There is WF-6 (which is what I have now) this one is a WFE-6, and then I've also seen WF-26. Can you tell me what the differences are?
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Bryan, The WF-6 pump is a standard full rate 1.5 hp model which has a total hp of 2.25, the WFE-6 pump is an energy efficient version of the WE-6 pump, it uses less amps and the WF-26 pump is a standard up-rate 1.5 hp which means it has a total hp of 1.65. So the full rate models has a higher total hp because of the service factor.

20,000 gal pool. running 3hp VS pentair whisper with suction cleaner. I don't like this setup, because I have to turn off main drain and skimmer and then run pump at high RPM which takes away the VS advantage. I want to install another smaller pentair pump to only run suction cleaner, maybe a 1.5hp pump. That will allow me to run the big pump longer hours at lower rpm's. I was thinking about the WFE-26, but do you have other recommendations?
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/13/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

Adding another pump also takes away the VS advantage of saving on your energy bill. If you are going to add an additional pump I would go with the Boost-Rite, which would be a booster pump for a pressure side cleaner. A great pressure side cleaner to go with that booster pump would be the Pentair Racer, part number 360228. The Boost-Rite is a great energy saving pump.

Has this pump always been made with threaded in and out ports that need a screw in type of fitting to connect the pvc? I have an older model and it leaks from the out port the one on top and I don't think the installer did it right because the 2" pvc goes straight in, no fitting just pipe. I'm going to cut it and do right but I'm afraid of it not having threads. The more I research it I betting that it must. Thank you

Hi, Rafael. I could not find any information stating that this pump did not come with threaded ports. It's rare to see a pump without threaded ports. If that's the case then you will have to replace the entire Whisperflo Pump Housing depending on how old you pump is.

Do you match prices shown on Amazon.com and what would the cost be to replace a Pentair Whisperflo 1.5 hp (model #011554) pump? Would an installation kit be needed and if so, what is the price? Do you repair such a pump? I had a new pump installed 2 1/2 years ago and it is no longer operable?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/20/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

We do not price match Amazon. The 011514 is $569.99 and the 011554 is the model number for the 4000 Series Pentair filter not the pump. Were you needing any information about that filter? We do not repair or install anything. We can help walk you through the installation and we have instructional videos on our website to help you with that as well.

I have a whisperflo pump, model number WFE-4 and part number 011513 (sf hp 1.65). There is water coming out of the bottom housing where the impeller connects to the pump. Is this a seal failure?

Hi, Alan. If you do not see any signs of a crack in the pump then the pump seal has failed causing water to leak out of the pump. You can use the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT which has the seals for the WFE-4 pump.

Hi David, The THP of this 011514 Pentair Whisperflo is 2.21 THP. The 011513 Energy Efficient Whisperflo Pump has a THP of 1.65 THP. If you have felt your pump has been a little underpowered then I would suggest the 011514 and if it seems to be performing fine then the 1.65 THP should be sufficient.
