Are there specs on how many microns this filter is rated at? Is there available another filter that won't allow finer particles to pass through?

As a rule, sand filters sift particles ranging from 20 to 40 microns in size. Cartridge filters can sift particles as small as 10 to 20 microns in size. DE filters can sift contaminants as small as 1 to 3 microns in size. This makes DE filtration at least five to six times more efficient than sand filtration systems.

Hello, Richard. Every pool is different and will accumulate debris faster than others depending on usage and environmental issues. The best way to monitor the cleaning time of the filter is to log your "psi" after you clean the filter element and turn the equipment back on. When the "psi" increases by 10, from the starting, clean the filter.

I need a new cartridge filter. I see Pentair is what I am replacing but I don't know what size to order. It is 3 1/2 ft tall and 40" around. Can you assist with just that information? Does the one you sell also come with the inside filter cartridge? Thank you.

Hi, Pat. Unfortunately, that's not enough go by. We will need the unit's model number or the part number off of the cartridge. These unit do come with a cartridge inside.

Manual suggests pouring .5 lbs of DE in filter per 100 SF to "enhance filtration of the water". I have a 24 FT round, deep end AG pool (15,000 gals). I poured 2.0 lbs of DE (thru skimmer) into new filter. Problem: residual DE re-enters the pool, settles on bottom like so many "spots". I vacuumed bottom twice (pressure is great, DE disappeared), thoroughly cleaned the filter and started over. While less, some DE is still visible. Suggestion?

It is .5 pounds per 100 square feet so putting 2 pounds in your system is 4 times too much and that is why you are seeing DE powder return back to the pool.

I have an old (around 15years) purex triton 100 sqft filter with a 2hp pump. My filter case is leaking bad! Will the 160316 work with the current pump that I have? Or is there another filter that I need to purchase? I want to stay with a cartridge, but I don't want to spend a whole lot.

Hello Scott- There is no minimum size pump rating for Clean & Clear Cartridge Filter 100 sq/ft - 160316, you pump just can't be higher than 100 gpm.

The pictures of the CC100 shows two different covers. One short the other tall.

Hi, James. The product images we have shown the same size lid in the picture you provided. The Dimensional image is the and the image used in the Brochure and manual are all generic images used. It does not depict all models.

Hi I have an in-ground 14,000 gallon pool with a 1.5 hp Pentair super flo (non VS) pump. I’m replacing a Hayward star clear c1100 filter system. I am looking at the Pentair clean and clear cc100 (160316) or the Hayward SwimClear C100S, both are 100sqft , just don’t know which would be the better one to go for?

I am replacing a 17 year old Pentair PTM100 filter. Is this an exact replacement or is there some plumbing work needed?

Hi Dwight, This is not a drop-in replacement for the PTM100 so there would be a little re-plumbing required. Unfortunately, the PTM100 was discontinued and there is not a filter with the exact same port position so whichever route you go you will require a bit of re-plumbing. We also really like the Waterway 100 Sq. Ft. Cartridge Filter it is sold at a great price and we feel is every bit as good as the Pentair Clean & Clear.

Hi, is this filter large enough for a 18x36 pool with an 8 ft deep end? Also what pump would you reccomend for my pool if the pump house is 60 ft away and ill have 1 skimmer and 2 main drains?

Hi Raymond, on this Pentair Clean and Clear 100 there is a drain cap at the bottom side of the base that you can remove to drain water or add a spigot that you can attach a standard water hose to for draining.

Re: Pentair EC-160316 100sf Filter.
I have seen two versions of this filter. One (here on your site) where the ring to remove the top is located near the top, and another version where the locking ring is about 1/3 of the way down the filter. What is the difference, and how can I make sure I get the one with the ring at the top?
They both have the same part number, just look different? I have attached pictures of both.
Hello Paul, yes this model EC-160316 does have the shorter filter lid design as it is a 100 sq. ft. model. The larger sq. ft. models have the taller lid design.
