pump will not flow, lost prime
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/16/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

There are number of reasons that can cause a pump to lose prime. A clogged line, dirty or old filter, air in the lines, suction air leak at a line or valve, clogged impeller, or even a bad glue at a suction or pressure pump fitting. In any regard either going through the process of elimination testing each possibility or getting a technician to the site would be the next course of action.

I recently purchased this impeller. the pump motor is a 3/4 HP. I see that this impeller is rated for 1HP. Could using this impeller cause the motor to overheat?

Hi, Lou I. In order to use the SP2610C impeller you would need a Full Rate 3/4 HP Motor, not an Up-Rate 3/4 HP that's why the motor is overheating. You will need the SP2607C Impeller.

Hi, If i was mistakenly using a SPX2610C impeller on a SP2607X102S dual speed motor, could this be the reason my motor would overheat and shut off on high speed and function normally on low speed?

Hi, Shane. Yes, that will explain why your pump is overheating on high speed. The impeller is too larger for the motor. You will need to either increase the motor to STS1102RV1 or decrease the impeller to SPX2607C.

I'm replacing my 1.5 horsepower motor on my system and want to also replace any parts that may need replacing. The impeller is part number SB2610-C and the existing one looks good but I can't easily turn it by hand. Does that mean it is ready to be replaced?

Hello,You would only need to change the motor.

Hi Eduardo, in order to cross-reference the correct impeller that you will need we will need to know the model name or number of the front pump wet end housing that the motor attaches to. You can upload an image of the complete pump here if you need as well.

I have a sp2610-c impeller and just replaced motor to the century vgreen variable speed, just ordered 2 different impeller rings and neither fit any options?

Hi Mindy, could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

Hello KB, yes the Impeller for 1.0 HP full rate and 1.5 HP up rate pumps would work on that unit. It is also used on several Hayward pumps including the Max-Flo, Super Pump, Power Flo II and Power Flo III as well as Leslie's Hydramax pump.

Hi John, For your pump housing and motor combination you will need this 1.5 HP Full Rate Challenger Impeller and not the impeller on this page. When replacing your impeller we would also suggest this Pentair Challenger Seal Kit.

The PL2672 would only work if you upgraded the motor on your SP2607X10 to a 1.5HP. The correct impeller for your pump is part number PL2671.

I'm having trouble finding the right shaft seal that fits on the impeller of my SP-1610-Z1-M pump. I have a new pump shaft seal 3/4" PS-201 but the two small ledge things on the shaft do not let the spring part of the seal slide all the way.
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/27/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Narciso.  The Motor Shaft seal PS-201 is the correct shaft seal for the Hayward Super Pump 1600 Series Pool Pump.  Please be certain to remove all pieces of the previous shaft seal from the backside of the impeller.  At times, the metal sleeve that runs through the center core of the graphite end does not come off when pulling the old shaft seal off the impeller.  Other times, the small rubber ring that sits inside the metal sleeve remains behind on the impeller shaft when removing the old seal.  Examine the bottom of the new shaft seal (the end opposite the graphite) for a visual of the small rubber ring.

I am upgrading from 1 to 1.5HP. Comparing the upgrade kits (p/n 5110-52 & p/n 5110-53), the only difference is the impeller, so that is all I buying, plus the 1.5HP motor and seal. The impeller description (p/n 5110-10DA) says this: "Impeller for 1.0 HP full rate and 1.5 HP up rate pumps. Used on several Hayward pumps including the Max-Flo, Super Pump, Power Flo II and Power Flo III as well as Leslie's Hydramax pump." Will I get better flow with this over my 1HP?

Hello Corey.  Generally speaking, the circulation flow rate should increase with the transition from a 1.0 Hp Impeller and Motor to a 1.5 HP Impeller and Motor.  Attached please find Super Pump Performance Data.  A 1.0 HP model is rated at 50gpm with 50 Feet of Head.  A 1.5 HP model is rated at 65gpm with 50 Feet of Head.  Hayward Super Pump  Please note: the maximum flow rate through 1 1/2" pipe is 60gpm, 2" pipe is 100gpm.  The GOKIT3 contains the parts required for the motor change.  In addition to the motor shaft seal, replacing the seal plate gasket and diffuser o-ring is highly recommended.  GOKIT3
