I have a Hayward Super II pump, model SP3015X20AZ, and a Century motor, model SP1615Z1MBK / C48M2N111A3. Judging by the other responses, I think I can use this motor, with the GOKIT2SALT Hayward Super II Saltwater Tune Up Kit (I have a saltwater pool) and the SPX3021C 2.5 HP Impeller. Did I get that right? Thanks for all the help!

I have a Hayward Super II pump. Will this motor fit that without any extra parts?
Attached is a pic with my current motor's specs? Is the V-Green motor compatible with HP and Frame?
Yes, this is the correct variable speed replacement motor for the motor included in your photo. You will also need a Hayward Super II seal kit when you replace your motor. You can set up the schedules in 24 hr intervals. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hi!
Currently, I have a Hayward Super Pump that runs on 220V model C48L2N134B1 SP-1610-Z1-M 1.5HP. After doing some research, I should be able to swap my old motor with this Round Flange 56J ECM27CU. I was told my direct replacement was ECM16CU but I would rather use this one because of the user interface and power. Will that be ok?
Btw, thank you for your YouTube video. That video actually brought me here to his site.
Thank you,
Noel
Reply
Hi Noel, yes going with a stronger variable speed motor is okay as you can always dial down the RPM setting to match your application needs.

I am thinking about replacing my older motor for my pool will this motor work with the CareTaker cleaning system?
And is it compatible with my pump?
Hi Mike, yes, this is the correct replacement variable speed motor for the motor included in your photo. You will also need a Hayward Max Flo seal kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

I would like to replace this with your V-Green 2.7 Round Flange motor. Can you supply me with all the part numbers I will need to upgrade this original 1994 1.5hp pump? I have a water feature in this pool and the 1.5hp just barely cuts it, however I'm sure I'll need more than just the motor. Thank You

I have a Jandy JHP 1.5 in a salt pool what do I need to install this motor part wise??
Hi Joe, you will also need the Jandy JHP pump seal kit when replacing the motor

I have a Jandy PHPU2.0 would like to get this VS pump but also need a new salt chlorinator I currently have a Jandy AquaPure700 but the electronic control panel is broke. What are my options what will work together what do I need. I have a quote # 69391 for the pump and gaskets and for the V-Green Automation Adapter Kit - 2517501-001, which I do not know what this piece of equipment does. Ive been on chat 5 times to figure this out but keep getting disconnected before my questions are answered.
Reply
Hi Bob, Thanks for the question and sorry about getting disconnected from chat. Do you have an automated control system which controls all of your pool equipment something like the Jandy Aqua Link which has an indoor controller? This will be important for us to know so we can suggest the proper items.
Reply
Hi, No I do not have an automated control system just a Intermatic dial timer that turns the pump on/off.
Reply
Thanks for the updated 69391 estimate. Is it possible for me to automate the system if yes then what would i need to do that?
Reply
Hi Robert, On board controller on the motor will allow you to automate the pump. For example you set when the pump comes on and off and you can automate at what speeds the pump runs at during different times of the day. If you want full automation where you would control things like your pool lights, valves, heater, spa, spa blower, etc.. from inside your house then that does get quite a bit more expensive. To quote we would need to know if you have a pool only or pool and spa combo. And which equipment you would like to control.

I have a Hayward Super II pump, model #SP3015EEAZ, and a newer replacement A.O.Smith/Century motor, model # ST1302V1, 3.0 HP and SF=1.0.
I had upgraded/upsized the impeller, diffuser, and seal plate when the original 1 1/2 HP motor was replaced by the newer 3.0 HP A.O. Smith motor about 5 years ago.
Would I need to change out these components again when I install a new V-Green ECM27CU 2.7HP variable speed motor?
Reply
Hi Anthony, I took a look at your last order and the 3 HP impeller you have would be just a little too strong for this motor. To use this variable speed motor on this page you will need to swap out your 3 HP impeller with this 2.5 HP Super II Impeller Kit also when you replace the motor you will need this Hayward Super II Seal Kit. This variable-speed motor will save you a ton on your operational cost compared to your 3 HP single speed motor.

Patrick, I see that I had ordered and installed a SPX3025CKIT Impeller Upgrade Kit in 2016 along with my current 3 HP motor. Is this the same kit that is needed for a ECM27CU 2.7 HP pump?

Anthony, Nice catch I did put in the wrong link, you will need this SPX3020CKIT 2.5 HP Impeller Kit Sorry about sending the wrong link the first time around but super happy you caught that =)

Can this motor be wired to work with a Jandy AqualinkRS controller? This controller was installed in 2005 and has not been updated since. Thanks!
You would need to order The V-Green Automation Adapter provides the ability to operate a V-Green motor with a 3rd party automation system such as the Hayward Goldline Pro Logic, Pentair Easytouch, Jandy Aqualink, and Intermatic controls. This will allow the user to control and experience the full variable speed capability of a V-Green product through an existing automation system. V-Green Automation Adapter Kit - 2517501-001.

I have a Hayward SP3015X20AZ that was installed brand new in September 2019. It is the loudest motor I have ever owned, even louder than the old motor. What parts will I need to replace this with the V-Green 2.7 HP and can I expect it to be quieter than my current motor?
Reply
Hi Dwight, Yes the Variable Speed will be so much quieter. I have one on my pool and when it was first installed I thought it had quit running because I couldn't hear it. You would require 2.7 Variable Speed Motor listed on this page as well as Hayward Super II Seal Kit I would also suggest replacing your 2 HP Impeller with this 2.5 HP Impeller so you can take advantage of the higher HP range of this Variable Speed Motor.

Reply
Hi Sean, In the USA there is typically Single-phase and Three-phase electric. Single-phase electrical is normally used in residential applications and Three Phase is used in Commercial Applications. I'm not aware of Dual-Phase. Is it possible you are meaning Daul-Speed meaning your pump runs on a high and low Horse Power? I have a Jandy Pump JHPU 2.5 and a Century motor Cat B130 P/N 0-159988-06, 2.0 HP, Frame X56J, 230 Volts, 10.5 Amps. I calculate at 8 cents per KWH, at 8 hours per day, it costs $556/year to run this motor. Regal Beloit told me the alternative pump to use is ECM27CU which you have on your website for sale. Can you tell me:
1. Is this compatible with my Jandy Pump.
2. Would changing the pump/impeller reduce the noise/reduce cost of elec.
3. Cost to run ECM27CU 8 hrs/day at 8 cents/KWH.
Reply
Hi, Tony. Yes, this ECM27CU motor is compatible with your Jandy pump. Changing the impeller will not reduce the pump noise. Th is motor use 2.4 kW at max RPM's, so it will cost $1.54 to operate at $0.08 / kWh.
Reply
I have seen a recommendation to use the Tune Up Kit Hayward Supper II-GOKIT2 and also the Impeller 2.5 THP-SPX3021C. I believe both are Hayward brands. How is this used with the ECM27CU Century Motor if not a Hayward brand? Lastly, I don't understand how a variable pump saves money. If used at lower RPMs doesn't it take longer for the water to circulate effectively requiring a longer time and hence just as much energy? This may require a phone call, if so, let me know and I will call you.
Reply
Tony, Motors can be used on several different pumps, Kits and Impeller are used on specific pumps. Your pump uses the Jandy JHP / JHPU Series Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT77. A variable speed pump save energy When the RPM's are reduced water flow is reduced, however, the energy used is less. In some case, the extended run time still will be less.

I was referred to this motor as a direct replacement for my Hayward Super Pump motor. Should I also purchase a larger impeller and diffuser?
Hi Ed, To take advantage of the upper Horse Power Range of this motor we would suggest upgrading to this 2.5 HP Impeller this 2.5 HP Diffuser and this 2.5 HP Seal Plate. Also when replacing your motor we suggest this Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit We hope this helps, we also have a lot of videos which will walk you through the installation process when you tackle this job.

At this point, wouldn't it make sense to buy an entire pump and plumb it in? Its a small fortune after add all those items. I have the same super look to upgrade to vs.

Hi Ed, when the pump housings are still in good condition then most often replacing the motor and parts is still more cost-efficient than replacing the entire pump. However, sometimes its just a preference.

Does th ECM27CU come with a base
Reply
John, no, the V-Green 2.7 HP Round Flange 56J Variable Speed Motor - ECM27CU does not come with a base. As long as the FR is the same as your old motor the ECM27CU should fit your existing base.

I have a Hayward Super Pump 2610x15. I believe this exact variable speed motor will work with my pump. My question is...do I need to do any upgrades to the diffuser or impeller being that my pump is 1.5hp and this one here is capable of up to 2.7hp?
Reply
You would need to change the impeller and diffuser if you are trying to get the full strength capacity out of the motor however that is a significant increase so more than likely you will not need that.

Hi, Michael. To determine if the variable speed pump is worth the cost, you will have to calculate the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your pool. An electrian is not needed if you know what you're doing. You can use our How To Wire A Pool Pump guide for directions.

Can I use a ECM27SQU in place of a ECM27CU?

Unfortunately no because the SQU has a square flange motor face and the CU model has a round motor face. The model of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to will determine the motor that is compatible.

The variable speed motor replacement is the model ECM27SQU and if you click here you will be directed to the parts diagram for your model pump. Keys 5, 13 and 15 are the most commonly replaced seals with this pump. You will need the pump housing serial number to confirm which shaft seal you will need.

Hi,
I have an old Hayward NorthStar SP4010X20NS I took out of service because a) it was screaming when turned on and b) it was an energy hog and I replaced it with a VS pump. But I have this old NorthStar on my workbench and I am considering the VS motor replacement for use as my water feature pump.
Will this motor fit the NorthStar wet end ok? Any issues with doing so? And before I drop $700 on this project, is a wet-end likely to last forever?

Hello, You would need to change the seals with the motor. You would want to change any housing pieces only if they are broken. In order to find the correct seals for you, what would be the model number of the entire pump? If you are unsure, you can send a picture of the entire side view of the pump so we can identify it for you.

I have a Hayward SP2607X10 with a 1HP motor C48K2N143B1. The motor housing is in bad shape – I can’t decide if I need a replacement motor or motor and pump – the pump appears fine.
I’m clear that I will to move to a variable speed motor for energy saving. I’m not wedded to Hayward. Will switching to a PureLine PL2605 pump provide me with anything different than if I went with the V-Green ECM27CU motor and stayed with the existing pump?
Thanks,
Lee.
Reply
Hello Lee, For a brand new SP2607X10 it would be 419.00, now for the motor would be 129.99, then the seal kit would be 37.95, and the housing would be 189.99 so if you are looking at all vs the whole pump; I would go with full pump. You would be replacing the motor, seals, housing. Still if the housing is the problem then that is just 189.99.

3 questions, I think: 1) Can this motor replace the AO Smith SK1152? (1.5 HP) I don't see a compatibility list, or I missed it while searching. 2) Can you point all of us to a guide to choosing between the 2.7 and 1.65 HP versions--maybe a GPM rating or something of that sort. 3) Do you carry a pump/motor combo that uses this motor? If it doesn't fit my pump, I think I want this motor anyway. Thanks!
Reply
Hi James, This motor will not replace the SK1152 motor because the SK1152 shaft is keyed. The 2.7 motor has higher total hp and an interface with additional features. We have the PureLine PL2606 and the Jacuzzi 94026140 pumps that uses this motor.

Replaced on a Hayward Super Pump which only runs 6 sheer descent waterfalls. The main pool has a super pump ii which motor still runs good. When I took apart 3 hp motor i noticed the company I used to remodel my pool had left 2 hp impeller, plate and diffuser. I changed to 2.5 impeller, diffuser and plate to take advantage to 2.7 hp. What a difference! Big improvement and quite. Glad i made the upgrade.

Cons: More $ initially
Person I spoke to at INYO was incredibly helpful and knowledgable. Our Haywood pump died, and rather than simply replace it with another low-efficiency pump, we ended up getting this variable-speed pump motor instead. It was "plug and play" with the existing hardware, and was up and running quickly. It is a dramatically better and more efficient pump motor than the basic Haywood, and will likely pay for itself in energy savings in a season or 2.

(3 out of 5 stars) Was Not Able to Just Replace the Faulty Motor
Reviewed By: ()
The design concept of the variable speed pump is very good. The electronic controller is also good. However, the motor itself is of a very poor manufacturing quality. I bought one pump in 2015 and had to replace the entire motor and controller system recently because the permanent magnet on the motor is poorly manufactured. The rotor magnets are glued with a poor quality epoxy. The magnets were chipped and separated from the rotor then became lodged inside the stator. It was a pity, I was not able to just replace the faulty motor. INYOPOOL needs to address the quality issue.

(3 out of 5 stars) It's Ok

Didn't have this pump a full year and the LCD display went bad. Then I find out that you have to completely pull the motor off the pump and provide a picture of the face of the pump before they will do anything with the warranty. And that even if the motor is fine but the display is bad. The savings I'm getting from this pump is ok but it's not as much as a lot of the online videos boast. I haven't seen anything more than a 15% saving on my electric bill. Not happy about having to pull the motor to take a picture. Then put it back together to wait to see what they do with the warranty. You also have to buy another pump seal if the motor is replaced.

(5 out of 5 stars) Perfect replacement for B129 AO Smith motor with Hayward Super II pump.
Reviewed By: ()
Perfect fit to replace a worn out AO Smith B129 motor (Screaming bearings) with a Hayward Super II pump. Easy to change, powered right up. Love the variable speeds and how quiet the motor is when running at lower RPMs. This is my first experience with a variable speed motor so had to take time to understand all the options and features. Called Inyo Pools to confirm going with 2.7 HP over 1.65 ECM16CU since B129 is 1.5 HP but is actually 1.95 HP with 1.3 service factor.

(5 out of 5 stars) Good investment,
Reviewed By: ()
Easy to install with existing pump housing. Based on current schedule, the estimated power usage is around 23 dollars per month. Which is way lower then my old pump. It's also very quiet and easy to program using the controller.

(5 out of 5 stars) a great choice for me to upgrade my Hayward super 2 pump motor
Reviewed By: ()
Found this one while searching for a new pump----- this is a great solution for anyone with an older pump. I have a hayward super II. I had a 12 year old 2 1/2 hp 2 speed motor that was making noise, leaking and running very hot so it was time to change. I have been looking to upgrade to a VSP to save energy for a long time but they run about 1300 + installation I was planning to do it myself but if you saw the way my pump is plumbed..... it would take a lot of effort and about 3 valve changes (no room to cut pipe) at about $75 each to do it. I found the direct replacement motor ($440) and found this one - it is a drop in replacement motor for about any pump: you have to make sure to order the correct mount square or round but you leave the 'wet end' - the part with the pipes in place and just change out the motor part so it is the same as any other motor change. The up front cost was $200 more but according to the energy calculator I should save that pretty quickly- the draw on the other was 10.2 amps at 220v for a total of about 2400 watts on high (less on low speed) --- running at about 8 hours a day year round, over the years the new one will probably save me quite a bit because we all know electricity does not get cheaper. The challenge was figuring out how to put this in place of my 2 speed pump and would it work with my older controller?- a jandy all-button remote with outdoor power center. I researched for a while and found out that the answer is yes and no -- you cannot control the pump speed with my controller but you can control of and on so the pump speed and run times are controlled with the new pumps on board controller, I just set the indoor controller to 'on' and leave it alone and adjust the speed at the pump itself-- not all that big a deal because how often do you change it anyway? my other concern was freeze control as I live where it does freeze sometimes but that isn't a real big problem because the pump has its own (read the manual online) and even if the indoor controller gets turned off, it will turn on if the temp drops below 39 so that shoudn't be a problem. The other issue I had was the two speed relay in the power center- I left that in place but disconnected the power to it and its relay so the fourth wire (that gave power to the low speed side) is disconnected on both ends for safety. once I figured that out wiring was easy (AS ALWAYS MAKE SURE POWER IS OFF AT THE BREAKER BEFORE TOUCHING ANY OF THAT - COMMON SENSE BUT HEY, TO IMPORTANT NOT TO MENTION). i love that the wires are on top so it is very easy to connect and as soon as I got it all together and turned it on, it worked perfectly with no leaks. --- the perfect solution for energy savings without replacing the whole pump! Another small thing that is not mentioned in any of the instructions is there is a thick rubber piece that I could not figure out what it was for until after I put it all back together ---- it goes on the old pump base under the new motor to support it like a motor mount It was VERY hard to install after the fact so when you open it up and see that piece, look at the old motor frame under the pump and see if there is a place to stick it as the new motor is smaller than the old one and without this support, all the weight would be on the bolts attaching the motor to the pump part- probably not a big deal but I am OCD enough to have to put it in there -- believe me, it was not easy after the motor is installed but done now and no more annoying rattle from the pump so you do kinda need it. The new pump motor is much quieter than the old one but can't speak to energy cost yet as my first bill hasn't come but I expect it to me much lower. This is a great investment if you need a new pump motor but the pump par itself is in good shape so, good luck! Id defiantly consider this one, its a great idea and much cheaper than replacing the entire pump.
