I have a wisperflo pump and I need to replace the motor. It is a Century Centurion A.O Smith Part 7-177450-03. It is a saltwater 20k gallon salt water pool with a passive solar system. I attached the pool pump part diagram. What is the correct replacement motor and is there a more powerful one I can replace it with?

The direct replacement motor would be the model B841 and ass ar as going up in strength I would only recommend going with a variable speed motor model ECM27SQU

We had a dual speed 1 HP Century motor on our inground salt water pool. Can we replace that motor with this motor which single speed? So the basic question is can we replace a dual speed with a single speed motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 7/16/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Brett. Yes, you can replace a dual speed motor with a single speed motor. The Total HP of the single speed motor must be equal or greater.

As long as the impeller is not severely worn or damaged then yes you can use it again. The seal kit for a chlorine pool is the GOKIT32 and for a saltwater pool is the GOKIT32SALT

 Reply

A  Answered on 6/7/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Linda, No you will need this BN25 1 HP Replacement Motor We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Jacuzzi SLR, Jacuzzi Cygnet, Jacuzzi Magnum, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

Sorry meant to say the BN25 can be hardwired or you can use your exsisting 3 prong plug from your old pump and connect to your new motor. So you should be all good.

Ralph, We would suggest the USQ1102 1 HP Replacement Motor over this B2841V1 Motor. When replacing your motor we would suggest a seal kit. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Sta-Rite Dura Glas, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. Hi Peter, The motor on this page is the correct replacement for your 177450 motor. We would suggest a Tune Up Kit when replacing your motor but we would need to know the make and model of your pump. Common pump models are the Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. Could you give us the model information for your pump, simply click the reply link below to do so.

Hi David, Yes this motor is the correct replacement motor for the Magnetek / Century Centurion 10-177450-03 This motor does not come with the impeller however the impeller normally does not need to be replaced unless the impeller is broken. We suggest replacing your shaft seal. To suggest the proper shaft seal or impeller we would need to know the make and model of your pump common models are the Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair SuperFlo, Jandy Stealth, etc.. Could you reply back with the model of your pump or you can send us some photos. To send photos simply click on the reply link below and upload your photos.

Hi. This B2841V1 is a single speed motor, not a dual speed. A dual speed motor will have a wiring diagram on the motor that you can reference. We can assist you with the wiring if you provide a picture of the motor and your controller.

Hi, Looking to replace my pump motor. The label reads Centurion SE, Part number: 8-186468-01, HP 1.5, RPM 3450, FR: Y56Y, TYPE: CX, CODE: F, TIME: CONT I notice this is only a 1-HP motor. Would this be a proper replacement for what I currently have and would going from 1.5HP to 1HP decrease any performance? My primary reason to replace the motor for a newer energy efficient and hopefully cheaper electric bill. The current motor is at least 20 years old. Other options appricated

 Reply

A  Answered on 2/24/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Barry. This B2841V1 is the correct replacement motor. You will not lose performance because this 1 HP Full Rate motor has a Total HP (THP) of 1.65. Replacing your existing motor with either a Dual Speed - B2982 or a Variable Speed - ECM16SQU are your highest energy efficient options.

Hi, Bob. They're a few options as far as an upgrade based on what you want to do. You can use this B2841V1 along with the impeller to increase the pump's water flow or just running a higher hp motor.

The current (dead) pump is just a 3/4 HP, the one you suggest is 1 HP, so I assume this would be an upgrade with water flow. What is included in the gasket kit, etc?

Is this the best motor to replace a USQ1102? The original motor looked like this and lasted 15 years. I've been through 2 in the last 5 years. They run extremely hot and I also wondered if a higher HP motor (1.5 vs 1) would last longer. I have a 20 circuit so should be OK.
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/30/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Pete. This B2841 is a suitable replacement for the USQ1102 motor. It hard to say without knowing what caused the other motors to fail prematurely. Worn pump parts like the impeller, diffuser, high/low voltage, improper ventilation etc can cause a motor to run hot.

Hi, I don't have any flow through the filter, and suspect the motor gone bad, oddly this happened after switching on the solar heater with older rubber panels! Hi, Alex. Since you're in California you can replace your motor with a single speed motor, you can only use a Dual Speed - B2982 or Variable Speed - ECM16SQU. You will also need the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT

 Reply

A  Answered on 9/27/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, HGC. Since you're in California, your replacement options will be the B2982 - Dual Speed Motor or the ECM16SQU - Variable Speed Motor. The variable speed option will provide you with a wider operation selection allowing you to maximize your energy savings and functionality over the dual speed motor which will require an external controller or switch. Whichever option you choose, I will also recommend that you get the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT

My existing QC1102 on a WhispareFlo Pentair pump will not turn over hums a lot and once I get the air (can't figure that one out) it usually starts but will trip the breaker first each time it trys to start automatically. Should I replace the motor or keep trying to find out why I am getting air in the system?

A  Answered on 7/19/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Kevin. This B2841 will replace the QC1102 motor. The humming and tripping of the breaker could be more than a faulty capacitor, possibly the motor winding. I will also recommend getting the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT with this B2841 motor.

Hello, I'm just about to order a new B2841 Century Motor 1HP motor and I'm wondering if there is any advantage to upgrading to a 1.5 HP. I'm happy with the 700 Gal bed 5 jet spa hooked up to a 250 BTU Pentair Heater and a blower but that little extra power of water to help the tired body after a hard days work maybe good or not so good. Saying that, I don't want to be be surfing the waves either. Thanks for your input
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello Glenn-When upgrading the motor size you have to take a couple things into consideration. The first would be whether or not your filter can handle the additional flow rate by the higher HP. The second being that you will need to change the impeller and possibly diffuser on the pump. The only advantage to going to a higher HP would be to increase the waterflow. But keep in mind it will use more energy as well.

Hi, Wolfgang. The B2841 motor you currently have will provide you with the same total horsepower as the B2854 using less energy. That's because the B2841 is a full rate motor with a high service factor. When you multiply the rated hp by the service factor you get the total permissible horsepower.

The replacement motor for a Whisperflo with a total horsepower of 1.65 is the 1 HP Motor EE - Full Rate (B2841, B2841V1). You will also need the shaft seal assembly or tune-up kit, that you can find by clicking here. The horsepower is determined by the gallons of the pool and other areas. We are showing that the 7-196030-05 corresponds to the B2980 3/4 HP 230V Dual Speed Motor if you do indeed have the 1 HP model then you would require the B2982 1 HP 230V Dual Speed Motor.

Hello... can you cross check this motor to replace an old MagnaTek Century Centurion part # 10-177450-03? I looked at the alternate numbers in your listing but did not see my old motor.

The B841 is the correct motor replacement and we would need the front plastic pump model that the motor is mounted to in order to cross reference which tune up kit that you'd need.

I need to replace this pump, what else do I need to complete the project?

You would also need a tune up kit, we would need to know the make and model of your pump to suggest the proper tune up kit. Pump examples would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Sta-Rite Dura Glas, etc..

I am looking at replacing my pool motor which Your website says this one is the correct replacement. If I were to go to a two speed motor, which one would fit, and what gasket kits would I need to make this happen? Thanks and Blessings!

Hi Kevin, You would require this 1 HP Dual Speed Replacement Motor. As far as the gaskets go we would need for you to reply back to our email letting us know the model of pump you have (i.e. Pentair Whisperflo, Sta-Rite DuraGlas, Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas, etc..)

Hello Shah - We would recommend replacing the motor. The bearings can be replaced but it is not a simple process. You can view our guide on "How to Replace Motor Bearings".

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Existing pool mator seized up and needed to be replaced

Written on 4/12/2018 by Guest

I removed the old pool motor, housing, and impeller. I matched the specifications of existing motor and ordered a new one from INYO pools. After receiving, I went to a local pool store to buy the shaft seal as I forgot to order. Once I had that, wired everything back up, attached back to my filter and flipped on the power. Worked perfectly.
