How can you tell if the feet on your aqua bug need replacing? They feel real sticky the shoes that I have on it. Also, the throat seems real brittle and breaks in pieces when I try to remove it--would that cause it not to move when it is in the pool or is it mote of a problem with the shoes?
Hello, If the feet are sticky, they will need to be replaced. It sounds like the throat will also need to be replaced. Here is a parts list.
Is this cleaner OK to use in an In-Ground 21,000 gallon pool with lots of leaves?
Hi, Tanya. This cleaner will not work properly in an inground pool. I would recommend the Hayward BLUCON cleaner.
Am I able to use my existing pool cleaner hoses with this unit?
Hi, Tanya. You can use your existing pool cleaner hose with this cleaner if they are compatible.
I bought an aquabug at a yard sale the seller told me it worked, it does have a suck up trash but it doesn't move, this is the first time I've ever tried something like this, is it supposed to move on its own? Does it take batteries to cause it to move?
Hi, Stacey. This unit works off the suction created through the skimmer. It will move by itself once it has the proper amount of suction.
On the Hayward critter, diver, lady bug and whale what is the difference beteen the heads
Hi Lori, The only difference is the character on the head of the cleaner. The performance and internal mechanical parts are all the same.
Our bug has been rolling on its side during operation. What would cause this to happen?? Also it seems at times he is moving too fast...
I would also check out our Guide on Pool Water Low Flow there are some good troubleshooting tips in that guide.
Poor water flow. Check pump basket clean it out.
Where do order parts from? I missing the part on the bottom that flaps (it just snaps on) it wiggles when it is in motion.
I have a Zodiak 24' AGPool and a 1 1/2 HP motor with 150 SF pleaded filter.....do I use full vacuum or should I reduce it with your fitting designed for this ? I am using an Aquabug 500....WHY must I remove it from the pool ? I have it set for 5 hours twice a day...I dont ever take it out and they last 2 years MAX,,,is that why the short life ?....Thank You...
Hi, William. The unit will come with a suction meter to make sure you set the correct amount of suction. Removing the unit from the pool will prolong the life of the cleaner.
bug goes in small circles and will not cover pool, I put on new feet and new rollers inside and cleaned filters .Still no good
Usually when it does that, you need a new gear box which is part number 3265-0004.
why cant we use a aquabug in a intex pool?
Hi, This cleaner can damage the liner of an Intex pool, I would recommend the WaterTech Pool Blaster battery cleaner.
what size motor does this require
A motor with a minimum flow rate of 32 GPM is required, but also have a filtration system that can produce enough suction to operate this cleaner.
Do you have any internal gears for the Hayward 500 Y ?
Hi Roberto,Here's the parts diagram for that cleaner so you can identify the parts that you're needing to replace. If you need further assistance don't hesitate to email back.
After reading that you can use the Aqua Bug in a salt pool, will it rust or corrode if doing so?
Hi Shawn, No the AquaBug would not rust or corrode in a salt pool. Salt pools are maintained at a low salt level of 3,000 PPM vs. Ocean water which is roughly 50,000 PPM of salt, so in our experience we have never had an AquaBug rust in a salt pool. Also roughly 95% of the components on the cleaner are plastic.
How many gph pump will you need to run this vacuum
You, A flow rate of 32 GPM is required, but also have a filtration system that can produce enough suction to operate this cleaner.
Will this work with a intex 2500gph sand filter and pump
Hi, This cleaner will not be able to work with an Intex 2500gph sand filter and pump.
Can this be used on Intex pools?
Hi Cathy, This unit is not recommended to be used with Intex Pools.
can this be used in the coleman-intex above ground pools also.
Hi Kelli, This unit would not be suitable for use in an Coleman-Intex above ground pool.
Can the aqua bug be used in an in ground pool?
Hi Jenny, The Aquabug cleaner is not recommended for in-ground pools.
What is difference between mods 500, 700,and 900
Jim, The only difference is the head of the cleaner. The internal "guts" are the same.
I hve an aqua bug and three of the spindles and their center piece are we missing on the bottom. Are these parts replacable.
Hi, All parts on the Hayward Aquabug are replaceable, you can find the complete part list via the Hayward / Arneson Cleaners Aquabug Parts List.
What would cause product to not move by itself?
Malinda, The Hayward Aquabug MODEL#500 could have several issues that cause it not to move by itself. I would begin with checking the filter to see if it is dirty and not allowing enough suction. I would then take the unit out of the water and check the moving parts such as the "A-Frame" and "turbine" to ensure that it is working properly. Then I would check your hoses to make sure you don't have any leaks.
Does this work with a salt water pool?
The Hayward Aquabug can be used in an Above Ground salt water pool.
How long will it take to completely clean a 28' round pool?
Tom, The length of time it will take to clean greatly depends on how dirty the pool is and the strength of the pump and filter. I would say on relatively clean pool , 2-6 hours.
Does the Hayward Aquabug have to be taken out of pool every day or when not in use?
Bob, It is recommended that the pool cleaner is removed when it is not in use.
What do i put my sand filter on? backwash or filter when using this product.
The Hayward Aquabug 500 would require your pool be in filter when want it to clean. If you put it on backwash it will let the water out of your pool and if left unattended could drain the pool.
Does this cleaner climb the sides of the pool?
This cleaner is not designed to climb walls. That rule goes for most, if not all above ground pool cleaners.
How many feet of hose come with this cleaner and how do I determine if I need extra hose?
This cleaner comes with 32' of hose, the hoses come in 4' sections. A simple rule of thumb is to measure from the skimmer (or dedicated suction line) to the farthest point in the pool then add two (2) extra hose lengths. If you determine you need additional hose you may purchase the hose sections here http://www.inyopools.com/Products/02201321001333.htm
Will the W560 or W530 leaf canister work with this cleaner?
Yes you may use either the W530 or W560 leaf canister with this pool cleaner.
Are hoses included with this product?
Yes this cleaner comes with 32' of hose.

Pros: everything. I just love it.
Cons: it was 3 attachment hoses too short for my 33foot pool, expensive pieces but still very much worth it
this is a 20/20 for the money. I love it. It saves work and time ...easy hook up ...it cleans the bottom people, it even picked up a framing nail that had bounced off of a shooting framing gun into the pool without us knowing. just saved me a whole new liner. i cant say i love it enough. buy it forsure go ahead, dont delay. it is worth it for the money even if you use it one season....now I hope it lasts more than that. i am sure it will

I just got this, but disappointed. It does not work well with my 1000gph above ground pool pump. I'm not ready to shell out for a new pump, so since I can't return it here since I opened the box, its off to ebay.
(5 out of 5 stars) Good Investment and a BIG HELP

Pros: easy to use, easy to order replacement parts
Cons: not enough hose for longer above ground pools in order for it to work correctly.
I wore my first one of these out, ordered more hose and now am ordering a 2nd one. It doesn't come with quite enough hose, but with what comes with it and what I already have, we should be fine. Also replacement parts were easy to get like the feet and the flappers.

Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Have an updated skimmer.
Cute bug, but does it work. Out of the box ready. Just stick the tubes together, sink and waaa- la, She's sucking up the junk. Highly recomended for above ground pools.

Pros: Does a fast job cleaning the entire pool.
Cons: Scares the grandkids so we have to take it out when they come over to swim.
It arrived fast and went to work the same day on our pool. Works efficiently and does a great job cleaning the bottom of the entire pool. We have a deep end in our above ground pool and it doesn't get stuck in the deep end like our previous cleaner did.
