What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Hi, I'm replacing a Pentair WFE-6 /011514, and see you recommend this pump motor as a replacement. I have solar panels on my roof (two story home), will this be enough on low speed to circulate through the panels? Also, all my relays on my controller are used by other options (spa air pump, pool lights, spa lights, etc.) do you have any options for using the low speed in this situation? Thanks.
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/6/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Dan. Operating the pump on low speed will not provide enough water flow to operate the solar. I will need to know the model of your controller to find out your options.

Hi, Guest. A VSP requires 230 volt electrical and some requires an external timer. Otherwise, no additional components are required.

Hi Norman, the toggle switch is part number 2512558-001 which is currently a special order however you can also use Intermatic dual speed timer part number T106R. And in order to locate the seals and gaskets, we will need ti to know the model name or number of the front pump housing wet end that the motor attaches to. Or you can provide an image of that pump housing here as well.

Hi Albert, yes this is the correct replacement motor for your motor model SPX3215Z2BE. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

Yes, the B2983 could be used as a 2-speed motor option for the Whisperflo WFE-6. The motor does not come with a hi/lo switch. If you don't currently have a control system that can switch the speeds, you can order the toggle switch separately. The part number is 2512558-001.

I have a B2983 motor with toggle switch kit that I got from you just two years ago as a California mandatory replacement for my B2842. Servicing the pool this morning I found that the motor will not run but will just "buzz" with the toggle switch in the "High" position. It will run with the toggle switch in the "Low" position but certainly doesn't move enough water to get the job done. There is no water intrusion evident. Can this be fixed without replacing the whole motor? Thanks, Ed

Hello Edward.   A Run Capacitor failure on a dual-speed motor will typically result in the motor running on only 1 speed.  Attached please find 2 brief tutorials How to Test a Pool Pump Capacitor and How To Find The Correct Capacitor For Your Pool Pump Motor   Please provide Voltage and Microfarad (uF) information from the current capacitor and a replacement recommendation can be made.

A bit confused here- I ordered the Century B2983 1.5hp motor on 6/3/23. I am replacing a Century 9-193990-07. My current pump reads 2.0hp on the cover, but in the chat before I ordered the INYO tech recommended the B2983. Should I have ordered the b2984 (2.0 hp?). The pool runs a hot-tub and a fountain feature as well.

Hello David, yes the model B2983 is a correct singe speed replacement motor for your motor part number 193990. Essentially it is a full rated motor which means that its total HP is different than what is just stated in the HP line on the motor label. We know that understanding the motor manufacturers specs can be confusing so here is our blog that we put together called  "How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated" that should clarify.
