This guide will clarify if a timer is needed for a particular salt chlorinator. Note: A timer is not required if the pool pump runs 24 hours a day. A timer is also not needed if there is an automated system installed (Hayward Pro Logic, Jandy Aqualink, Pentair Easy Touch, etc).

Step 1

Hayward Aqua Rite) The Aqua Rite does not have a built in timer that will control the pump. The Aqua Rite requires an external timer. It is very important that the Aqua Rite is powered only when the pump is running.

Hayward Aqua Trol) The Hayward Aqua Trol (above-ground model) has a built in timer that can control a 120 VAC, 15 AMP Max pump. An external timer is not necessary but can be used.

Pentair Intellichlor) The Intellichlor does not have a built in timer that will control the pump. The Intellichlor requires an external timer. It is very important that the Intellichlor is powered only when the pump is running.

AutoPilot Digital and Soft Touch) The AutoPilot has a built in timer that can control a single or dual speed pump. An external timer is not necessary but can be used. The beneifits of using the built in timer are that the "Boost and "Pump" features can be accessed at any time. If an external timer is used, these features are only available when the power is on.

CompuPool CPSC Series) The CompuPool CPSC does not have a built in timer that will control the pump. The CompuPool requires an external timer. It is very important that the CompuPool is powered only when the pump is running.
