The Multiport Valve on your filter could be called the command center, from this one piece you can have your filter complete six to seven different functions. For example Normal Filtration, Backwash and Rinse. Without a properly working valve, your filter would be unable to function properly. In this guide, we will walk you through on how to replace a damaged or old Multiport Valve.

Are multi port valves universal in size?Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 7/2/2019
They are not. you would need to know the make and model of the filter to determine the correct multiport valves.Reply

Hi I took screws off multiport valve to put in new spider gasket and can’t remeber how to place back and which position. Is there anyway you can tell which way it goes back. I wouldn’t want to replace it wrongly and maybe backwash instead of filter. Help pleaseReply

Hello Daphne - There is usually a notch or some sort of marker on the valve cover and the valve body that has to be aligned to ensure you are placing the cover in the correct position. We show in step 22 of this guide: How to Replace a Hayward Key Seal AssemblyReply

6qlD4v.. - Thank you for your comment. It looks like this guide was started and inadvertently put on the website before it was finished, then forgotten. See our guide on "How To Install a Pool Sand Filter" for some of this information. We will put this guide back into the hopper to be finished at a later date.Reply

Where are the rest of the steps? I just see up to step 9 and then it ends....no second page, etc. Is something wrong with the webpage?Reply

kim - There is a bearing washer under the handle that may be cracked or the valve spring may be weak and need to be replaced.. See our guide on "How To Replace a Pool Multiport Valve Spring".Reply

Check the manufacturer of the filter to see if you have a screw on Multiport Valve. If it is a screw on and both the MPV and the filter tank are plastic, try soaking the joint with a TSP solution. Then attach a strap clamp around the bottom of the MPT and twist it counter-clockwise. Have someone tap the joint gently with a rubber hammer as you are twisting it. Hopefully, this MTV was not glued on to the filter tank.Reply

In step #6 (my top mount does not have the clamp part), I can not unscrew it from the body. I even tried using WD-40 several times letting it alone to soak in to help loosen it as my pool supplier suggested. I even used a piece of wood with a hammer to try to nudge it. It does not budge.Any more suggestions?
