Whether you use Bromine or Chlorine in your Spa or Hot Tub you will always need to check to see if your spa water is balanced correctly. Using the Aqua Check test strips is a cheap and easy way to test your water.

Things You'll Need

Step by Step

Step 1

The test I used was the AquaCheck Chlorine 4-Way Test Strip. This strip checks for Free Chlorine, pH, Total Alkalinity, and Cyanuric Acid.

Step 2

Dip the Aqua Check test strip into the spa water just for about 1 second. Take it out of the water and hold it for about 15 seconds. Do not shake. This allows the color to properly change on the Aqua Check test strip

Step 3

Compare the strip to the colors on the Aqua Check Bottle. The colors will show if your spa water is properly balanced and let you know what you need to add. In the case shown in the picture the water has low Free Chlorine, high pH, high Total Alkalinity, and Ideal Cyanuric Acid.

Step 4

The Aqua Check test strips showed that I needed to add ph Minus and Spa Chlroine. pH and alkalinty typically go hand in hand. So if you increase the pH typically the alkalinty will follow. Follow the directions of each spa chemcial to help make your spa water balanced. If you are just starting your hot tub you will more then likely need to use the Aqua Check multiple times until your water is balanced.
