The 3-Way strips test for Alkalinity, pH, and Free chlorine or bromine.

The colors on my test strip don't match what is on the chart. The chlorine is a very dark purple and everything else is lighter than the rest of the chart.

It sounds like the strip is getting "bleached". This will happen if the chlorine is too high. I would recommend using a chlorine reducer to lower the chlorine. Once it is within range, you can re-test the other levels.

It seems like I constantly have to add chlorine to my swimming pool. Every time I test my chlorine, it seems low (even a few hours after adding chlorine). What can I do?

I would first make sure that you are testing the total chlorine AND free chlorine. If they are not the same reading, you may have a chlorine lock. If the chlorine levels are the same, I would check the pH, alkalinity and cyanuric acid levels.

Cons: you have to have the container with you to read the results
The six way test strips are great. We used to use the little tube thingy with the drops. These strips cover all the necessary checks and balances. We have very hard water and calcium builds up on the sides of the pool. The strips help us keep the hardness and alkalinity balanced.
