The 9-0720-01 is the direct replacement for part Del part # 7-1130-01. The 9-0720-1 includes the replacement chip (5-0561) check valve and tubing. The 9-0720-01 Del Spa Renewal kit is used on all Spa Eclipse and CDS16 Models
Is it time to replace your Del Spa Ozone chip? CD Ozone Chips and UV Lamps are both rated for 9,000 hours of operation. Although you can wait for the unit to completely fail before replacing the ozone components, it is better to replace them annually. Like an oil change on a car, keeping it up on a regular basis is healthier for the car in the long run.
The Del Annual Renewal Program keeps your spa water healthy with a high degree of sanitation. By keeping your water up, you avoid down times when your water quality is poor, plus you avoid adding unnecessary chemicals that are needed when you water becomes unbalanced.

We have a 5 year old spa with a Del CDS-16 unit that has never been serviced. Would it make more sense to upgrade the entire unit or go with the CD chip renewal kit?

We would recommend going with the CD Chip Renewal Kit. This should be replaced once a year.

Cons: connectors are difficult to unfasten, chip is a snug fit
I noticed that I could no longer smell ozone while running my hot tub, and my bromine levels were getting more difficult to control. I pulled the panels and discovered that my Eclipse was no longer putting functioning as determined by the lack of a blue glow from the old CD chip. Ordered this kit to repair, and was not disappointed. As is usual for my orders from INYO, it was shipped quickly and I had it within a couple of days of my order. Replacing the old CD chip is easy, although the connectors are difficult to unfasten and the old CD chip is pressed in rather snugly. The fresh delivery hose, fasteners, and check valve are nice touches as the ozone really degrades the plastic over the ~2 year lifespan of the chip.
