Hi Larry, this would be the correct main drain for an above ground pool, so you are on the right track with this item.

why do the drains come in a two pack. no need for two

A  Answered on 3/21/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Steven, The law is that a pool has two main drains, this is for safety. By having two drains you have less suction on each drain eliminating the likelihood of someone getting entrapped on the drain due to too high of suction.
