We have this filter. We are considering switching from chlorine to salt water pool. Will this shorten the life of the pool filter? How many years of service can we expect out of this filter? Thank you.

Good afternoon Roy. A salt system will still be a chlorine pool, it just makes it now instead of you adding it to the water. The tank will be fine and not affected any more by the addition of the salt system. The balance of all chemicals is what extends or shortens the life of your equipment.  The tank should last 5-10 years, depending on the environment. The hotter or colder the weather, the harder it is on the tank material.

Could you be so kind as to suggest whether a HAYWARD S310 TOP MOUNT FILTER would be suitable for a :- 13000-15000 galls water 2" plumbing & would it maintain enough pressure for the pop-up cleaners Thanks

Hello John - The S310T2 would be suitable for your pool. The pop-up heads are dependent upon the HP of the pump. The S310T2 will have no effect on the pop-up heads.

Hello, It will be cheaper to replace the tank as a whole vs buying the tank by itself.

My in-ground pool holds approximately 18,000 gallons of water. What size sand filter do I need for this size pool?

There are multiple different ways that you can go with this size pool. You need to be sure that the pump model that you have has a compatible gallons per minute rating to the filter. Generally speaking without knowing the pump model or system specifications to confirm, you may want to look to use a sand filter that is approximately 3 to 3.5 sq. ft. Please review all system specifications with us or a licensed contactor to confirm that all elements of the system are compatible.

I had to replace my sand filter tank as the old one cracked at the top neck

Written on 6/12/2018 by Craig B.

I my situation I was upgrading my filter size due to a number of reasons. The new filter was a top mount valve where as my old one was side mounted so I had to redo most of the plumbing. The intake line still met up with the Superpump intake but the rest of the plumbing was re worked. After removing the old system I placed the new sand filter in place and made sure the plumbing connections and routes of lines would line up ok. I then added the sand to the filter as per the included instructions which were very simple but helpful so as to not damage the internals of the filter. After that it was a case of tackling one line after another. I like to use unions on all lines in case in the future I need to change out or remove the valve for some reason. I also winterize my pool even though I am in South Carolina by removing, flushing my pump, and then storing it indoors. The unions make that task much simpler and faster. I like to dry fit most of the plumbing so as to have everything lined up correctly before cementing the joints. I find it is easier and makes for less corrections. Once all the connections were complete I added water to prime the pump and started it up. This unions are also helpful, if placed in the proper places for correcting for any leaks.

Were these instructions helpful?
