Is this a replacement for a model 5600 Hayward Booster Pump
Hi Fred, the Hayward 6060 pump is a direct replacement for your old 5060 pump.

My booster pump will not run continuously when the Polaris cleaner is turned on. The pump will come on for a few minutes, then stop for a while, then go back on again. It seems to be off more than on. The motor casing felt very hot. Is that normal? Do you think this is a case of just a bad motor or does the whole thing need to be replaced? Thanks.
Reply
Hi Charley. It sounds like your motor is overheating - we made a guide on troubleshooting an overheated motor here to help you be sure that is the issue. If it is overheating then replacing the 6060 booster pump motor and the motor shaft seal is recommended. These instructions on How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump will guide you through it.

Can this be used to replace my 13 year old AO SMith pump used with a legend style cleaner? Specs of old one are in the picture attached. Still runs but no real flow coming out of it.
Hi Bob, Thanks for the photos! Yes this booster pump would work as a replacement for your current booster pump powering your Legend cleaner.

I have a Hayward 5060 used for a polaris. When the pump if off (pool filter pump running) should there be water pressure coming from the Polaris connection jet?
I feel a lot of pressure coming from the jet, would this account for low pressure at the other return jets?
Reply
Hello, most often the plumbing return lines are plumbed with the pressure cleaner lines so yes you may be getting water return through the cleaner line even when the booster pump is off.

No, they are actually the same model but the one that begins with the "W" is for online retail.

I have a booster pump and or motor go out. I comes on, but doesn't produce enough volume to drive the Polaris 280 cleaner. Do you think its the motor or the booster pump? I currently have a Hayward model #6060 booster pump with a Hayward model #C48D62A04 3/4 HP motor. Is this the correct pair for the 280 cleaner?
Reply
Hi, Rick. The issue may be the pump, the cleaner or the cleaner line. It's not the motor because motors are designed to operate at full power or not at all. The Hayward 6060 booster pump is sufficient to operate a Polaris 280 Cleaner.

I currently have a Pentair Boost-Rite Pump for my Polaris cleaner. Pentair has refused to warranty it because I installed it myself. That pump is a 1 HP and I see this is a 3/4 HP. Will this run my Polaris 280?

Hi Brad, Yes this would power your Polaris 280. However, I would suggest the Polaris PB460 Booster Pump as it is specifically designed to power the Polaris 280 cleaner.

We have a slide on our pool at the club. HCP100 does not have enough lift to correctly feed the slide. I want to cut in a booster pump. What is the GPM of this booster pump? I am sure this is more than enough for our slide. Is this 2-3 on shipping? I need it PDQ.
Thanks,

For normal applications this pump will put out about 20 - 30 GPM's and delivery is 2-4 business days.

I have the Hayward 5060 booster pump which has failed. Is the 6060 a direct replacement? Does it support the same form and fit of the 5060?

Hi, The 6060 model is a direct replacement to the 5050.

The comments about how quiet and energy saving the 6060 pump motor is, has me wanting to replace my PB4 with the 6060. I see that it can be done, but are there any plumbing/wiring differences I need to know about?

Hi, JJ. The 6060 Booster Pump can be plumbed and wired the same way as the PB4 pump.

I need to replace my Hayward 6060 pump, but I do not want to convert to using hoses. Does your replacement pump have exterior threads for me to screw to my existing threaded fittings that will connect my PVC "hard pipe"?
Reply
Good morning Paul, This pump is setup with 1.5" unions. You would have to reduce them to 3/4" pipe if you wanted to hard plumb in.

I have a 3/4 booster pump to operate my Polaris cleaner. The motor windings have shorted so I need to replace. I have a StaRite 1.5 HP pump/motor ,,same speed and voltage. Pool guy says the Polaris will "jump out of the pool". I say if I adjust flow, on the valve ,it should behave the same. Also the 1.5 HP has bigger,, probably 1.5 " inlet and outlet.
Is it ok to use the 3/4" hose or shod I use hose to match the bigger in/out.
Jim Burk

Jim, I would not recommend trying to use a pool pump as a booster pump. The pool pump is not designed for use with 3/4" plumbing.

As a follow up from my previous question. Does the pump come with the base? If not, will my base from the 5060 fit the 6060?
is the 5060 still available?
Thanks

The base is included with the new pump.

The volute on my 5060 has threads on the inside of the intake and outtake, Does the 6060 have the same? The piping was screwed into the intake and outtake and I want to make installing the new pump quick and easy and do not have alot of plumbing skills.
Reply
Hi Richie, The 6060 does not have threads on the inside, it comes with the unions for easy removal and installation.

What is the amperage rating for this motor (120V). Are motors available in 1/2 HP rating ? 3/4 not necessary, flow must be reduced w/orfice plate or adjustable pressure at poolside.
Reply
Hi, At 115 volts this pump draws 13.3 amps. There is not a 1/2 HP motor you will have to reduce water flow with a valve or pool side depending on the cleaner that you have.

Can I replace hayward 5060 with another brand, like Polaris? Do I have to worry about connections, hoses, etc. how to compare the two for best fit, volts?
Reply
Hi Sukie, The manufacture recommends that you use their pump with their cleaners. However some folks have mix match cleaner and pumps. The connections is not a huge factor.

Does this Model 6060 pump assembly include the impeller? It seems so but I don't want to assume. thank you

Hello Don, yes the 3/4 HP Booster Pump is a complete pump, including the impeller.

John, Yes the Hayward booster pump can replace a PB460 booster pump, however we do still carry the PB460 Booster Pump if you wanted to stay with the exact same model.

I need to know the pump curve to see if I can use this pump to be used to pump water to my house.

This pump does not have a curve chart because it used to operate a pressure side pool cleaner.

I have the Hayward 5060. Looks like the 6060 is the current replacement. The 5060 is 230v....is the 6060 the same? What alterations do I need to do for a 6060?
Reply
Hello Tim - The 6060 is also 230v. No major alterations are required. You can plumb the 6060 in with 1.5" pvc or retrofit it to accept 3/4" hose.

I purchased a Hayward 6060 booster pump to replace a Hayward 5060 booster pump but the inlet and outlet are different. What's the recommended way to plumb the new pump?
Reply
The newer style Hayward booster pump comes with 1.5" slip unions and 3/4" hose barbed fittings. You can either plumb it in using 1.5" pvc or you can retrofit it using the 3/4" barbed fitting and flexible hose.

What is a booster pump, and where does it attach to?
Reply
This cleaner is designated as a pressure side cleaner which means:Pressure Pool Cleaners most pressure cleaners require a booster pump which is typically a ¾ horse power pump that is dedicated for use with the cleaner alone. The booster pump allows you to operate the pressure cleaner without taking any suction away from your main pool pump. The addition of the booster pump does mean pressure cleaners require a more involved installation than either suction or robotic cleaners. The booster pump is installed in tandem with your pool pump.
Reply
What does the booster pump do?
Reply
The booster pump is used to power your pool cleaner. It is a designated pump just for this purpose. This takes away any wear and tear on your main pool pump. The Viper and the Phantom both require the Hayward booster pump to function properly.

Pros: Quiet, Powerful, reasonably priced
Booster pump went out. Local store wanted $310 for a new pump, $510 installed. My buddy has replaced these before and said it was "a snap". So I ordered the pump for ~$220 and had it in 2 days! Within an hour, my buddy had it installed! Awesome deal - great pump - VERY quiet compared to the 6050 we replaced.
