Digital Controls
The Raypak Digital gas heater comes with a microprocessor based thermostat control. This control allows you to set your pool or spa temperature precisely at your favorite setting just by pressing an up or down temperature control button. The Digital display gives you a constant read out of your pool water temperature. Just set it, and forget it! Truly simple.
Troubleshooting a gas heater has never been easier. The Raypak Digital has on-board diagnostic controls that let the user and the service professional know what is going on with the heater at all times. In the event that you would ever have a problem with the heater, the digital display will show where the problem is in the control circuit. It's like having a service technician built into every heater!
The Raypak Digital is compatible with most major pool control and remote systems on the market today. Any two-wire or three-wire remote can connect to the Raypak Digital and be integrated into the pool control system of your choice.
Wind Resistant
The Raypak Digital has the best outdoor design in the market today. With over 50 years in designing and building gas heaters, Raypak has put all that experience into its newest heater design. No need for fans to combat drafting problems, the Raypak Digital was designed for outdoor installations with its exclusive low profile design. It is so thoughtfully and carefully designed it actually protects itself from the things that tend to stifle ordinary pool and spa heaters: falling leaves, wind, airborne debris, rain, downdrafts, updrafts, sleet, snow, etc. In fact it is so efficiently designed it ensures uninterrupted heating performance regardless of all but the most extreme weather conditions. Built Raypak tough. Built to last.
Cabinet
One look will tell you that the Raypak Digital is different! The look is contemporary. The design is advanced. And inside and out it's engineered to last. The attractive forest green and charcoal gray panels complement the latest pool and spa equipment designs. Raypak's original "pagoda top" design will keep the heater operating even in extreme wind conditions and downdrafts.
The Raypak Digital has a polyester coated, non-corrosive cabinet that is more durable than solventborne and waterborne coated metal cabinets. Every piece of sheet metal that gets powder coated goes through a 7-stage wash system making certain the powder paint has a perfect bond. Underneath the tough and beautiful finish you will find galvanized metal that offers superior rust prevention and years of durable service.
Non-Corrosive Waterways
The Raypak Digital incorporates the latest in header design technology. Raypak's state-of-the-art engineering department utilized the latest in 3-D computer aided design to engineer the part for optimal performance. Polymer resin headers prevent rust stains from harming your pools surface giving you years of trouble-free swimming pleasure
This Raypak Digital heater has cupro-nickel fin tube heat exchangers for added protection against aggressive water chemistry. Although rare, there are certain applications, like health club spa's, where copper is just not the best choice. Cupro-nickel offers superior tolerance to bad and fluctuating water chemistry, thanks to a harder surface and thicker walled fin tube.

I have a salt water, in-ground, vinyl liner pool in Louisville, Ky. Wanting to purchase a Raypak 400k salt-friendly or similar high-output heater to have installed. Our old heater was 20 years old and stopped working last year. Do you recommend a local, Louisville plumber that installs you heaters,?

What is a zinc anode Raypak unit as compared to a Cupro-nickel heater and are both usable for chlorine or salt systems
Reply
Hi John a Zinc Anode is an item you purchase seperate from your heater. We put together this Video on How Zinc Anodes Work. Cupro-nickel is specific to the heater and is an alloy of copper that contains nickel and other strengthening elements. Because of this, it is highly resistant to corrosion in salt water. Pool heaters with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger are recommended for customers with a salt pool. Using one with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger will extend the life of your heater.

Bought house with old Raypak RP2100 R185A heater that is shot. Pool is gunite, approximately 40,000 gallons, with an additional spa attachment. Currently standard chlorine pool, but looking to switch to saltwater in the future. Is this the right heater for this replacement, or is there another you would recommend?
Reply
Hi, Kyle. The R185A unit was probably heating the spa only. If you would like to heat the pool also, then this R406A model will be sufficient. You will have to replace the gas line with a larger size etc to use this R406A model. Otherwise, the P-R206A-EN-X #51 will be the direct replacement.

What size natural gas line does this heater require? Will it operate with the standard residential natural gas meter?
Reply
Hi, Michael. The gas line size is based on the distance from the meter to the unit as illustrated in the Pipe Sizing Chart located in the Product Description.
Reply
Is there any way to connect something to the gas line that will measure gas consumption so that I can keep an eye on it and not go over my monthly budget? It seems like there should be some kind of meter that could be connected.

Hi, John. We do not offer such a product, however, they're available.

We live in North Central Florida. Our in-ground pool is an 16'x 36' rectangle with a deep well of approximately 7' and a shallow of
about 4'. Which size (in btu's) do you recommend? Thanks.
Reply
Good afternoon, based on the information yes that would be the heater size we would recommend if you have the gas line to support it. You would need to check with the installer on the meter and the gas line size.

Hi, I have really old Raypak RP2100 c-r405-en BTU 399 SN# 9412107420. I have a salt water swimming pool with spa with total about 20,000 gal. 407,000 BTU seems high for that size pool- should I replace with this model to stay consistent or go with something smaller BTU?! I understand I need Cupro-Nickel due to saltwater..?! Thank you.
Hi. You can replace your existing heater with a smaller, however, modifications will have to be made to the gas regulator and gas line.

I have an older Raypak model P-M406A-EN-C and I want to replace it with a Cupro Nickle Model 014941. Will I have t make any piping adjustments or is this simply a like for like in regards to install.

We apologize for the inconvenience, however, we have been unable to obtain that information from the manufacturer. We suggest calling them directly to see if you are able to find anything.

I am debating on the 406 399,000 btu raypak with the copper or the one with the cupro-nickel 360,000 btu
I have a 20x44 foot tri level pool with about 48,000 gallons. I use a slat generator. I want the higher btu's nut I think the nickel heat exchanger is better for the salt generator, even though my generator can operate on very low salt 2000ppm. What do you advise
Reply
Hi, Tom. The Cupro-Nickel model is the best long term unit for your pool even though your generator can operate on very low salt.

I have a raypak 336k btu heater, 7 years old and its leaking. My water chemistry has been well maintained. Any suggestions on how to prevent? Thinking about replacing with 406 k btu with cupro-nickel exchanger. Are the dimensions the same or would I have to modify? Also would the higher btu allow me to save energy by lowering the temp I maintain my indoor pool when not in use and dial it up a few hours before planning to use? Is there a smart phone compatible remote to allow adjusting remotely?
Reply
Hi, Joy. It depends on where the unit is leaking from. The Header O-rings - 006713F could just be bad. The dimensions of both units are the same as for the water connections. The larger unit will heat your pool faster but it will also use more gas. There is not a stand-alone smart phone option for controlling just the heater.

As long as yours is at standard geographic elevation then yes this is a good replacement unit.

Reply
Hi, Raul. You can use a Raypak 406,000 BTU's to heat a 25K pool. You will need a Low Nox unit P-R407A-EN-C. The Low Nox units are not equipped with a Cupro-Nickel Heat Exchanger.

i currebtly have a 10 year old raypak p-m406a-en-c that is rusting out, will this heater be better and will be a drop in replacement?
Reply
Hi, Jason. The Raypak P-R model heaters are a direct replacement to the Rheem P-M model heaters. This PR406AENX has a cupro-nickel heat exchanger which is better than the copper heat exchanger and will be a drop-in replacement for a residential standard application.

Is the control panel lockable or how would you suggest it be isolated - I rent out my property in Florida and I'm fairly sure some guests are putting my Hayward H250 into manual and putting on the pool heat without paying for it
A key switch or something that electrocutes thieving hounds would be good ;-)

Good morning Chris, There is not really a sure way or product that would work for you . Even if you went remote it can still be operated manually. only thing I can say is to put a locking door over display with a note saying for owners use only or remove the heater. no heater np problem.

I have a R406A EP C ASME Pool Heater that I would like to replace. What newer unit would be the best replacement model?
Reply
The direct replacement for the one you have is part number 009287 which is a commercial propane heater. The cupro-nickel model that you would need to replace your current heater is part number 010221 and would have to be special ordered. If you like I can get the lead time and price information on that and email you a quote.

I would be using this @ elevation 5628 feet in Highlands Ranch, CO. Is this heater good @ this elevation? I also have a power vent on the heater I will be replacing Model P-R405A-EN, can I use it on this model or how is it vented? It is located in an enclosed room,, not outside.
Reply
Hi Les, The Raypak Heater 406K (009223) is the high altitude version which is good for 2000-6000 ft. It does not have the curpro nickel heat exchanger.

We are trying to compare this Raypak to another model. Can you tell me how this compares or is different from the Raypak RP2100 406k BTU Digital Pool Heater - Natural Gas (item sku: 31-RPD406N). I didn't see that you sell the RP2100, but if there is no difference then this one should be fine for us.
Reply
Hi Chris, It looks like this is the exact same model as the Raypak 31-RPD406N however this unit has the upgraded heavy duty Cupro Nickel heat exchanger. If you want the standard heat exchange which comes on the 31-RPD406N then you will require the 009219 Raypak Heater Natural Gas 406,000 BTU's

Making sure before I order. I have natural gas (City Gas in Omaha NE.) coming into the house. We use a salt water system. Our present raypac is about 12 years old and has started to rust out and is leaking. I believe it is 399000 btu. Which system do you suggest.

Hi Edwin, This unit will be a suitable replacement for your current unit and for an saltwater pool.

Can the configuration of the header & or the gas inlet be swapped from one side to the other?
If this can be achieved, how simple of a task is this?
Thanx,

The headers/heat exchanger can be swapped from one side to the other. The gas connection cannot be swapped. The directions for swapping the heat exchanger/headers are on page 25 of the owner's manual.

Is this model a LONOX heater? I live in Houston, Texas. The humidity is very high and need a heater appropriate for this climate.

Our Jandy burnt up because it overheats if the automatic timer shuts off the pool pump and does not have water flow through the heater. What heater would be best choice for Florida with an automatic timer on pool?
Reply
I would suggest the Raypak series of heaters as they have an automatic water pressure switch. The water pressure switch detects when there is no flow going through the pool heater and turns the heater off. This switch ensures that the heater will not get damaged if the pump shuts off when the heater is in operation.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
Reply
Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

Needed to get a good heater for pool to replace the old heat-exchange system that was in place when I bought our home. I installed the new heater from Inyo pools myself. I had an HVAC contractor extend our gas line to the new location for the heater and i prepared a good base for the new heater. Installation was easy and the new heater works great with my large salt pool. We purchased the cupro-nickel because it is more durable for a salt pool. Also installed a backwash valve between the heater and the salt generator to prevent salt water from backing up into the heater. Important to get heater level on the pad and make sure that you think through the process in attaching and extending PVC pool lines to and from the heater. This is not an easy plug and play and gas lines and water lines need to be lined up and installed properly. The process with Inyo Pools in purchasing the heater was easy and it was a great price.

I called and spoke to Megan. She requested pictures of issue, which were sent. Egan then facilitated a prompt delivery of the new grill. Megan was very knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. A negative became a big positive. Great service!

(5 out of 5 stars) Good bye LoNOx
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Very simple design with straight-tube heat exchanger. Much less pressure drop than my old 250K BTU Laars unit. This unit heats the spa quickly (<30 min). Atmospheric means no blower (quiet) and no complicated ignition control. I'm finally rid of my Lo-NOx unit (Texas) and very please with the purchase so far. Raypak extends the warranty to 2-years if installed (at a single family home) by a licensed professional. 3-years if new construction.

(5 out of 5 stars) Super Quiet Heater
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Heater is super quiet, cant hear it over my VSP Pool Pump on High. Water heats up pretty quick, on screen incoming water temp is convenient. Installation was quick for Pool Guy, easy to reverse Headers and Electrical (come on right side), Gas is on Left. One complaint is that the P6 Connector for the Power (and really all Molex Connectors that connect to the board), the plastic clips that lock the connector on the board are extremely fragile when prying to allow you to lift the connector up and off. Ended up breaking ours, but connector still stayed snug down. As far as operation, works great. Has three modes with Individual Set Points. After you flip the power on, you can press mode button to Spa (has a set Point for maintain temp), hit mode again to Off, hit mode again to "pool" with another set point. Hit mode again to off. The diagnostics menu is also nice since it will read out Flame Strength, On-board Voltage and Error Codes so you can find a problem quickly. Didn't need this menu, but was very nice to have for self troubleshooters. Came very fast from Inyo, Shipped from Saginaw MI on a Friday, arrived on a Tuesday in Las Vegas NV. Well packed, no damage and had a "tip meter" on the side to show if it was ever jolted in transit.
