OEM volute gasket used on the Pentair IntelliFlo-VF, IntelliFlo-VS + SVRS, IntelliFlo-VS 3050, Triton Whisperflo pumps.
This molded gasket was introduced with the re-design of the seal plate in June 1994.
Which direction does the rounded edge of the gasket face; the grove or the flat face of the wisperflow filter?

Hello Walt, the rounded edge faces out, the flat part goes into your seal plate, make sure the groove (rounded edge is facing out) that will seal into your housing section.

Where the pump motor mounts to the pump housing,was leaking. The last pool guy tried silicone. Didn’t work. So a 9/16 socket and ratchet. A scraper. Took the thing apart. Lubed up the oring groove to hold the new oring in place. Push the motor back to the pump housing and evenly side to side tightened up all the bolt. Worked like a champ. INYO pools were the only pool supply company to carry the parts I needed.

Pros: Flat side goes toward Seal Plate.
Cons: Little smaller so it constantly pops out of groove until fully tightened.
The gasket is a bit of a chor to put on. I recommend Vasoline and two butter knives. Install the gasket, the mount the plate loosely. Gradually tighten bolts but use the butter knives to ensure the gasket is seating properly and not being pinched. Continue tightening until all surfaces are mated. Did not have any leaks and went on first time.
