What are symptoms of a bad gear assembly box on my Hayward Aquabug?

A sign of a bad gear box would be that the cleaner travels straight and does not turn. It will also get stuck near the steps because it cannot turn.

The black cap that fits on the bottom of the gear box can be placed on post to reveal different configurations. Which/ what is the correct way?

Marc, The side with the black cap should be facing up with the part adjacent to the side with the nipple away from body. So the nipple should be facing the turbine.

does anyone have a picture of the inside gears? I can't get my back together correctly

When taken apart and I have the gearbox in my hand....I can blow and make the gear move, but am I supposed to be able to turn them myself. I can't move them by the way!
Hello Scarlet. The gears are not able to be moved manually. They will rotate as a result of adequate air or water flow.
