Idler Gear Kit (3 Gears) - GW9509
When new, do these gear fit on the shaft without significant play? I have a 3 year old cleaner that does not turn (actuate the lift brush). The gears fit very loosely on shaft. The shafts certainly aren't wearing out. When I spin the ratchet gear by hand on a bench, it appears the idler gears turn until the cam hits the brush lift area and then the idler gears seem to twist on the shaft and no longer engage each other.

These should not fit loosely. It sounds like they are worn and will need to be replaced.

I did end up replacing the 3 idler gears and the cam gear. The new ones are almost as loose as the old ones but they did fix the issue. I was tempted to wrap the two shafts in teflon tape to tighten up the tolerances and eliminate the wobble. But I was afraid the tape would just come loose and stop the gears from turning. Overall, I think the tolerance of the gears are too large.

Yes, you will need to replace the gears they should not have any play.
