What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

I included an image of the following pump. This pump started to make some noise (clunking sound). It starts up fine, sounds normal but after a few minutes it starts making noise & the water pressure drops 10 PSI. I am starting to wonder if it is a bad bearing since it sounds metallic and there is a drop off in pressure which might be an indicator that the armature is not rotating optimally. Am considering purchasing a new motor but need to make sure that I am getting the correct replacement.

part # 35-126-1378 replaces the 35-126-3028 but will be correct. You did not supply any pump wet end info & you will need parts if going with a replacement motor only. ( shaft seal, seal plate o-ring etc. )
