Hi. To remove the metal ratchet tab you will first need to remove the center brush. Slide the tap out of its slot sideways toward the end of cleaner body. Replace it by sliding in a new ratchet tab until it is flush with the edge of the plastic holder. See page 16 of the Sta Rite Great White Owners Manual.
