Hi Frisco, This part has a timer valve that opens every 3-5 minutes allow water fo flow throw this valve allow the cleaner to loose pressure allowing it to back up.

After easily installing this Ray-vac Hydro Timer, I observed and actually timed the intervals it made movement of the Ray-vac. Results indicates that this replacement timer works great and once again I can rely on the Ray-vac to work properly. I would highly recommend this product.
