is there suppose to anything under this to prevent the tank from leaking when filter is running

My question is which side of the threaded sleeve assembly goes up and which side down? One side has a curved surface, the other side is flat. I have a leak at this interface but all components look good.

Hi, Dave. The flat side of the sleeve faces down.

I can't get the split nut to tighten on the threaded sleeve. It gets to a point then re-loosens

If your split nut collar is new then we do recommend you replace the threaded sleeve assy as the threads are probably starting to wear down.
