I have heard of people using pool shock to sanitize drinking water but I can not promote the use of any pool shock for this purpose. You will want to contact the NSF for further information.

Is this product only for use in salt water pools?

The Non-Chlorine shock is an Oxidizing shock, meaning it uses oxygen to kill bacteria in the pools. This NON-chlorine shock can be used in a salt water pool. It is not recommend to be used to treat for an existing algae bloom.

I use non-chlorine shock when the pool looks OK and the chlorine levels are good. This way it doesn't add a lot of extra chlorine. I try to use this every 2 weeks or so and regular shock about once a month.
