This will be my first time winterizing a swimming pool and I need a cover. What's the difference between the solid winter cover and a mesh winter cover?

Both solid and mesh winter covers are very durable and come in different strengths. You will need to use winter cover pump to remove water from the solid winter cover during the off season. The solid cover does not allow light through it which can help prevent algae growth during the winter. A mesh cover offers you the same features as the solid with the exception that it allows waster to drain through the cover. A mesh cover also allows sunlight through which contributes to algae growth. You will not need a cover pump if purchasing a mesh winter cover. Both winter covers are held in place with Aqua blocks or water tubes.

Based on the charts we have, your 16' X 32' Rectangle would require 10 - 10' & 1 - 8'.

Does a mesh cover need to be the exact size of the pool. Our pool is 30 x 14 and I don't see that size.

Hello Barbara, the cover does not need to be the exact size of the pool. You would prefer to have it larger in order to cover the pool and some of your deck preventing anything to fall into the pool.

Does the winter mesh cover stop water evaporation?
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/23/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Stacey M.

Hello Randy, Evaporation is increased by high wind speeds, high air temperatures, low relative humidity, and high water temperature. You can use a mesh cover to help with this, but I would recommend adding a Natural Chemistry COVER FREE 32 Oz - 07100 which decreases evaporation up to 85%.  There is also adding a small fountain to help cool the water if water temperatures get too high.

We live in Florida, so don't need a cover to winterize the pool, but are planning on replacing the roof on our home this year & would like to know if the mess cover will allow water to flow through, but keep out any nails or other small metal fragments from getting through and going to the bottom of the pool. Thank you.

Hello, yes a mesh cover would serve that purpose for your swimming pool.
