What is a scrim?

The scrim count refers to the thread count contained within a square inch of winter cover. This is identical to comparing thread count on bed sheets. The higher the scrim count the better your winter pool cover will hold up against the harsh winter elements.

I have a 20 x 40, with a built in pool cover. I usually add a tarp cover over the pool cover to minimize leaf and debris stain. There is approx. 5' concrete apron in the shallow end where the pool cover slides over the steps. Including this additional area, the dimensions would be 20x50. Would a 30x55 cover work? Or do I need to go larger? Obviously when the water level is dropped during winterizing, the cover sags/drops requiring a larger cover than the actual pool size. Please advise. Mils?

Hello Brian, the cover size on this cover is 35x55 and it's made for a Pool size 30x50. There is no Mil with these covers, its made of polyethylene scrim and coating means that this cover can withstand winters worst.

if I have a 16x32 inground kidney shaped pool ... will this be big enough to winter cover it??
 Reply

A  Answered on 11/17/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

If the widest point by the longest point of the pool measures 16'x32' you can use the Winter Pool Cover for 16' x 32' Rect Inground Pool - PL7946 because this cover is not cut to fit a kidney you will need to add some padding underneath of the cover and the perimeter edge of the pool. This will protect the manufacturer's defect warranty, helping to prevent the cover from rubbing on the surface of the deck and tearing it. Does this cover have holes in the tarp to allow for rain to fall through and only catch the debris or leaves.

Hello Betty, thank you for contacting INYO POOLS. The PL7964 does not have a drain that allows water to pass through, it would be 100% solid. If you are looking for mesh cover we would suggest the 8 Yr. Mesh Inground Pool Cover 30' x 50' Rect. - PL6964.
