What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

I have a jetted whirlpool tub, and lately when running the jets, the motor seems to be making more of a grinding noise, and the pressure coming out of the jets is not very good. I ran a tub cleaner through it, and nothing. I am thinking it may need a new motor and possibly pump?? The motor that is currently in it has the following: part 7-177954-21. Also JBD0956. Also Magnetek Century Jetted Tub Motor. What would you recommend?

Hi Ryan, You have to option of replacing just the motor which would be the BN24SS. We do not have a direct replacement for the JBD0956 pump but the AquaFlo FMCP 3/4 HP 115V Pump is the closest replacement we have.

I am in need of replacing my pool pump with part # O-177893-24 A.O. Smith. When I search the information I get 3/4 HP Single Speed Motor - BN24V1 and also 1 H.P 115V Thru Bolt Motor - BN25. Can you advise as to which one is the correct one? Thank you.

Would this motor be the right replacement and if it is I would also need part numbers for a on/off switch, air switch and go kit thank you

Hi, Casey. This is the correct replacement motor for your pump. The Air Switch - TBS-339A is what can be used to operate that motor. As for the gokit, we will need to identify the pump's wet end.

Can this 3/4 hp motor be mounted to this pump? Uni-Might Vertical Circulation Pump 115V 1.6AMP | 3410030-1X. I can not find this pump on your site, but found it elsewhere. Pool Supply Unlimited

This is not the replacement motor for the 3410030-1X and just the replacement motor by itself is not available, you will require the complete pump which we have in stock here 3410030-1X Waterway Unimight 1/8hp, 115v, 48fr, w/vertical mount bracket

But that motor will not do. My current dead motor is Magnetek 1081/1795. It is 3/4 hp and 3450 rpm 9.8 amp and the motor you are suggesting will not handle the spa. It is a jet pump not a recirculating pump.

Hi Jim, Could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

These are pictures of the motor and pump I am trying to replace for my Spa. It runs the high speed jets. The motor sits upside down in the spa so that the connections are both going in the same direction. I don't have a lot of room to reroute the connections to the front of the wet end like most of the wet ends that I have seen. It has all been removed so I don't have a wide angle picture.

Hi James, Thanks for the motor photo's those are quite helpful! This motor will replace the motor that is currently on your pump, you will still need to use the same plastic wet-end portion as we do not carry the complete pump with the 3/4 HP motor. Your best bet will be to replace your electric motor with this motor, I would also suggest replacing your shaft seal with this Uni-Might Shaft Seal when you replace your motor.

I would use my wet end if I could, but it is in very bad shape. The impeller is trashed and the housing attachment points are cracked and broken. Isn't there anyplace that carries that type of wet end? Is Waterway the manufacturer, and if so can you give me contact info for them?

Hi James, Actually we do carry the wet end for your pump here Waterway Uni-Might Wet End Can you supply a part # off of your impeller? We are showing that the Uni-Might was only ever made in 1/8 HP is it possible that your motor was replaced before and possibly with the larger 3/4 HP model? If so then you would be paying higher operational cost to power the 3/4 HP motor but you are only getting the output of the 1/8 HP impeller. If you could get a part # off of the impeller that would be quite helpful.

Attached pictures of the impeller.I can not find any part #'s. As you can see from the back of it I had to cut the motor shaft with a hacksaw to get it apart. Don't know if it help's but the impeller doesn't look or feel like plastic. It feels and looks like some kind of ceramic material. It is very possible that the motor was replaced in the past. I have had the spa since new and it is almost 40 years old. I think I might have replaced it about 25 years ago.

Hi James, Can you pull any part #'s off of any of the internal plastic pieces? If so please supply. You may want to reach out to Waterway to see if they can help there # is 805-981-0262 Waterway does not sell direct to the public but we can supply you with any of the parts they recommend.

I have a hot tub that needs a new jet pump and motor. The motor that is in it at present is the 3/4 hp Century pool/jetted tub motor part #7-177893-22. I can not find any info on the pump part, but in research it looks exactly like the Uni-Might Vertical Circulation Pump 3410030-1x. I could not salvage the pump or the motor. My question is will this motor and pump combination bolt together and do you know where to buy the pump. The only place I found was "Pool Supply Unlimited" very pricey.

Hi Jim, Based on the motor part # of 7-177893-22 then this BN24SS would be the proper replacement motor for your pump and would bolt up to your housing.
