I have an American Products backwash valve model # 987408 with a black body & lid, 10 bolts and 6 positions near the handle. The valve is 10 years old and still works but I would like to replace the cover handle assembly and spider gasket, is this the correct handle assembly?

Yes this is the correct handle assembly for the American Product 987408 and here is the spider gasket for your valve. Please note that these parts are for the 2" version of this valve, meaning that the valve accepts 2" plumbing and not 1.5"

Bill. That is the correct OEM part. There are two generic parts that are considered just as good, they just do not say Pentair. They are part numbers 4600-1152 and 4602-1152. The 4600 is white, while the 4602 is black, but both will operate exactly the same.

I have an older multi-port valve , Pac-Fab either SM-20-3 or 9M-20-3 . I need the top assembly, handle, spring, o-ring valve port, looks like your 270067. Will that fit my unit or do you have one that will? Thanks

Hi, Wayne. Yes, this Vale Top Assy (OEM) will fit your model valve. There is also an Aftermarket Valve Top Assy - E-50-S2 that you can use. The Cover O-ring - E-7-S2 and the Diverter Gasket - E-12-S2 will have to be purchased separately.

If you can't send photos then can you pull any part #'s from your valve? Is your valve mounted on the side of your filter? Is the plumbing going into the valve 1.5" plumbing or 2" once we get this information then we can suggest the proper replacement? Thanks so much

Hi Dave, Thanks so much those pictures really help. This Top Valve Assy will fit the SM20-2 valve, the Spider Gasket (271148) is not included. You can also go with the generic version by Praher which can be found here Prahaer SM20-2 Top Valve Assembly and the Praher SM20-2 Spider Gasket my suggestion would be the Praher version based on the price difference. Would this replace the top valve for my Pentair Model SM-20-3? See attached. I just need the top valve, as it the spring and handle are pretty shot, and it keeps ripping up my spider gasket.
