I have a Hayward super pump that the motor is starting to go. The markings on the motor label are model C48L2N134B1 and SP1610Z1M (photo attached). It is 8 years old and was used 4 seasons on a chlorine tab fed system and the last 4 on a converted salt system. Will this EE pump fit and work with what I have? Will additional parts/components be necessary for a salt system pool?

Hi, Joe. This UCT1152 energy efficient motor along with the Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT are the parts you will need to get your pump running again.

Joe, You could use the PureLine PL2230 Motor however to take advantage of the full 2 HP of power you would need to replace your impeller with this 2 HP Super Pump Impeller, otherwise you will be spending money to operate a 2 HP motor but only getting the output of a 1.5 HP since you have a 1.5 HP impeller.

I purchased the UCT1152 motor, the GOKIT3SALT, and the 5110-10DA Impeller for my Hayward super pump C48L2N134B1. I followed your video on changing the motor and seals, but when I screw on the Impeller only hand tight I feel resistance when i attempt to spin the motor shaft, it does not spin freely. it seems like the Impeller shaft seal and the ceramic seal are butt up against each other, rubbing against each other. Is this normal and the way it's supposed to be or am I doing something wrong.

Hi, Kenny K. Once the impeller has been installed, the motor shaft should also spin freely. Please provide pictures of how the shaft seal is installed.

Replacing an older UST1102. I am trying to decide between this UCT1152 and the CT1102. Both will operate at similar hp and are a similar cost. Would there be a reason to pick one over the other. I will be replacing the impeller as well so replacement cost for that is not a factor.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/10/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

You really would not want to use either motor for they are stronger than your UST1102. The energy efficient version of your model motor would be the model UCT1102. Increasing the horse power is not always a good idea for the builder typically calculates the pump strength needed.

You could upgrade to 2 HP but you would want check the GPM rating on your filter to make sure it could handle a 2 HP motor, you will also need to upgrade your impeller to 2 HP. Finally for a 2 HP pump you will want to make sure you have at least 2" plumbing.

I have a Hayward II super pump and need to replace the motor. I am looking at either the UST1152 or the UCT1152. Which, if either would be the better choice? Pump model is SP3015X20AZ Impeller is SP3016-c Thank you!

Hello Alan,Your Hayward Super II SP3015X20AZ is a 2 HP pump, so neither of those motors would be a proper match. You will need to replace your motor with a UST1202 or the energy efficient 2 HP B230SE.

I am looking for an energy star rated replacement pump for a Hayward SP-1610-z1-M. I found the energy efficient UCT1152. Are there any other options for a motor replacement?

Hi Rich, Replacement pool motors are not "Energy Star" rated because it's a replacement part. Only pump as a complete unit will have the "Energy Star" rating. The A.O. Smith High Efficiency 1.5 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor (UCT1152) will be the energy efficient version to the UST1152 model.

You can use either motor model 5212X or UST1152 as a direct replacement or this UCT1152 as a slightly more energy efficient model.

The easiest way would be to put a voltmeter on your supply to see what voltage is being supplied to the pump. Step 6 in our guide on How to Test Pool Pump Voltage explains how to do this.

The motor on my Hayward Superpump (SP2610X15) is getting really noisy and I plan to replace it. The motor is an AO Smith Century Centurion (CAT B229SE, PART 0-184982-23. TYPE CX, FRAME Y56J, 1.5 HP) Will this UCT1152 the correct replacement? Thanks!

A  Answered on 6/23/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

Hi Paul. The UCT1152 motor is the standard  Energy Efficient 1 1/2 HP replacement motor for the Hayward Super Pump. Your current B229SE motor is equivalent to the UCT1152.  Both will work. The B229SE is about 2 " longer and is currentrly about $40 less than the UCT1152. I would also recommend a GOKIT3: http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00500022000632.htm?Keywords=gokit3

Hello Ray - The UCT1152 is not the correct replacement motor. Model USQ1152 would be the correct replacement. The seals would depend on the make and model of your pump. Our Pool Pump Parts Page has a list of most of the common pool pumps. The seals can be found on this page.

Will the AO Smith UCT1152 cost less to run than the UST1152?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/1/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes, the UCT1152 will cost less to operate compared to the standard UST1152. Depending on how the motor is cared for, it should last several years. When replacing the motor, I would recommend buying a tune up kit based on your pump model and age.

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/18/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.
