Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/10/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

My house is at 5,600 feet elevation. Spa will be 550 gallons in-ground plaster/concrete. Natural gas-240VAC. No jets. Does heater sense pressure and temperature? What pump should I get to match with this heater?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/4/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

This heater does have a water pressure switch and has a thermostat, so it does sense both water flow and temperature. Since your house is at 5,600 you would need a Raypak High Elevation Heater. The 206,000 BTU Raypak heater has a minimum flow rating of 20 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) and a max flow rating of 120 GPM's. Based on these flow ratings any pump from 1/2 HP to 2 HP would work fine with this heater.

I am not sure what the total gallons is, I will need the average depth of the pool and the shape of it to calculate total gallons. An example; if this pool is 20,000 gallons the minimum BTU size to install is 167K BTUs. If you selected to order the 206K BTU for a 20K gallon pool it would take approximately, 1-hours and 10-minutes to raise the temperature by 1-degree.  Reply

A  Answered on 11/13/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

The digital model heaters are equipped with the ability to work with external remote controls. The supplied 7-pin remote wiring connector supplies power out to either a toggle switch or the switch contacts of a third party remote. The remote works by either making or breaking the circuit created by the remote wiring. Typically, a remote does not supply power to the heater, it only provides a switching function to turn the heater On or Off. If your remote is suppling its own voltage to the heater, it will not work with this heater and may damage the digital circuit board

Hello Stewart.  Millivolt ignition systems ignite the burner(s) utilizing a standing pilot light and do not require external power.  The Millivolt heater generates its own power with a small thermocouple driven by the constant pilot light.   Electronic ignition systems ignite the burner(s) utilizing an electronic spark or hot surface.  Electronic ignition heaters require external power 120VAC/240VAC to operate.
