Which side goes where when I replace this 201 shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/15/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

When replacing this 201 shaft seal as well as others you need to put the spring side on or against the impeller with the dark ceramic side out and then the other half of the seal inside the pump seal plate with the white ceramic side facing out. Please be advised not to touch, wet, or dirty any of the ceramic parts for it very well may compromise the seal.

I bought this along with a motor. I have setup watching your diff videos. It is a JWPA Sta-Rite pump. After hooking everything up and turning it on, there is water coming from the backside of the impeller so the seal is failing. I did have a VERY hard time getting the seal onto the impeller and I'm not sure the spring is actually able to move properly. Should I lubricate the impeller to help slide on the seal, and if so, with what (not the seal itself, but the impeller to help slide on).

Brian, Lubricating the shaft/inside of the impeller with a silicone lubricant where the shaft seal goes will make it easier to install the seal. You may need to install a new shaft seal since its leaking.

The shaft is leaking on my above ground pump. The parts tag on the pump shows the following: A.O. Smith HP: 1.0 SPL part # 7-187609-21, serial number BW6-22, SP W48Y. 60HZ, RPM 3450. The wet end has the following tag: Jacuzzi model S1kG9-3, order no. 94027976NB0X, Date 15 Jun 01. I did not install the pool so I do not have any information about it. What shaft seal part should I purchase?

The number you provided does not allow me to pull anything up. If you are looking to replace the shaft seal on your pump please attach a picture of your pump so I can identify what you have.

I have an AO Smith UST1072. I bought a PS-201 seal that doesn't fit the shaft. The original seal on the shaft had notches for two metal pieces extruding from the bottom of the shaft. Is the PSR-201 the correct seal for this shaft instead?

Hi, Tony. You will need to remove that metal piece in order to get the new pump seal to fit onto the impeller shaft.

Hello Deryk, the part 7-184821-04 cross-references to 3 HP 2 Speed 230V Low Amps Thru Bolt Motor (3421821) - BN62. If you need shaft seal, we would need to know the pump model number in order to assist you with finding your correct seals.

I need a new motor and shaft seal or seal kit for my Pearl whirlpool, but I can't find the seal on your site. The motor is MagneTek .7 HP (1.0 SF) 7-177954-23 which I believe your BN24 will replace. The pump label does not list a brand name. It reads: 7JCM-TL-3-BULK, model 94216710, date 30OCT98. Can you please verify that I selected the right motor and tell me which seal will fit. Thanks, Danial

Hi, Danial. Unfortunately, I was unable to locate the seals or seal kit for the pump you have. However, I was able to confirm that the BN24 motor is the correct replacement motor.

Please click here to view the parts diagram for your pump. The GOKIT14 is the complete seal kit and key number 16 is the shaft seal which commonly is the seal that needs to be replaced based on your leak description.

I have 3/4 hp booster pump, [magnetek], for swim pool. I have leak where pump shaft enters impeller. I found cracked/dried out rubber washer I think was the seal or part of seal. Not sure?? I'm having trouble finding what type seal I should use. I will send photo of motor name plate. Motor is working fine.

For us to suggest the proper seal kit could you send a photo of a wide shot of your complete pool pump to show the pipes going in and out of the pump? To supply your photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get this photo we can make the proper recommendation for the seal kit.
