Swimming Pool Perimeter Lighting

Fiber Optic Perimeter lighting
basically
requires three different items...
 |
|
 |
|
 |
Light Source
Illuminator
SV150
|
|
Sideglow Cable |
|
Cable Track |
 |
The SV150 Illuminator
The Illuminator is the light source of the fiber optics. It is where the white light or the color changing actually occurs. The light is then transferred from the illuminator through the sideglow cable and around your swimming pool. The color changing effect is actually caused by a color wheel located inside the Illuminator. One Illuminator can be used for multiple lights (underwater, perimeter, waterfall, or landscape). The maximum amount of strands that can be used per illuminator is 550 strands of fiber. An upgrade kit can be purchased that makes the maximum amount of strands 756 Strands (SVFH756KIT)

Sideglow Cable
From the light source the light is transferred through actual fiber. In the case of perimeter lighting the fiber is known as Sideglow cable. The Sideglow cable is made in different strands of fiber 23, 32, and 42 Strand. and is sold per the foot. The strand of sideglow cable you purchase depends on the shape and color of your pool. The higher the number of strands the brighter the cable. The length of sideglow cable is based on the perimeter length of the pool and the length back to the Illuminator. The cable should start at the Illuminator, end at the Illuminator, and should not exceed 200' in length. The shorter the cable the brighter the light. So a 40' Sideglow cable will be much brighter than a 200' cable. |
 |
Cable Track
The Sideglow Cable will need to snap into a track. The track comes in several different varieties. The track you purchase will depend on the type of swimming pool you have and the fiber strand of your cable. |
Fiber Optic Perimeter Lighting Layout
Below is an example of the perimeter layout. The sideglow cable starts at the illuminator and goes through a 1" PVC tube and out around your swimming pool. The cable will snap into your track that you have installed onto swimming pool. The sideglow cable should end back at the Illuminator. The light will flow through both the start and the end of the cable. So in reality there is not start or end of the sideglow cable. The light will flow from both ends and meet in the middle. This allows for the maximum amount of brightness in your fiber optics.

Q: How do you install perimeter fiber optic track on an existing gunite pool?
A: Purchase the SVTRK42 track, you would add a bead of silicone adhesive to the back of the track and then you would purchase stainless steel screws along with anchor to attach the track to the pool wall.
Questions to ask before you start:
1. What type of cable should I use?
Three styles of sideglow cable are available from low cost 23 strands that fits into
industry standard flat tracks to 32 or 42 strands with round profiles for easy installation
and when a brighter band of light is desired.
2. If a vinyl liner pool, what type of coping is being used?
Some coping is fiber optic ready, and this will determine which fiber it accepts.
Important Note: Sideglow cable is used to accentuate the outline of the pool. It does not
illuminate the body of water.
General Fiber Optics Guidelines
- Sideglow cable must start and terminate at the light source. The total length of a cable can
not exceed 200’, including the distance to and from the illuminator.
- The shorter the loop of cable, the brighter and more even the effect.
- When possible, a separate loop for the spa helps keep the pool loop short and brightIf total length exceeds 200’, then multiple light sources are necessary. Those light sources
must be synchronous. Start the run at one light source, go half way around the pool and
exit to a second light source. Then start another run at the second light source, go around
the other half of the pool and terminate at the first light source. Try to keep each run
approximately the same length for even illumination
