above ground pools

You have just moved into a home with a new inground swimming pool. Now you are wondering such questions on how do I maintain and operate my swimming pool. What does the pump do? How do I clean my filter? What chemicals do I need in my pool? The information we provide in this section will give you a better idea on how your pool works and will help you get the most enjoyment out of your swimming pool.

We will start off with what is the basics on what you need to make your swimming pool work, and then get into more advanced supplies that will make operating your swimming pool easier.

Swimming Pool Basics
All inground swimming pools need to have the following items for them to run properly.

  • Water Enclosure
  • Pool pump
  • Swimming Pool Filter
  • Returns (Eyeball Fittings)
  • Pool Skimmer and Main Drain (Suction Side)
  • Pool Valves
  • Piping

Below is a typical set up of most inground swimming pools. Please note setup will vary depending on pool size, shape, and construction.

If your Swimming Pool has a Spa attached to it the set up is very similar to the above with the exception of the Spa and a few more valves. Below is a typical set up for a Pool with a Spa.

Another common combination is to add a solar heater to help heat up your swimming pool. These panels are often located on the roof of the house and collect heat using the sun.

There is more swimming pool equipment that can be plumbed into your swimming pool system, but this will be discussed later on this site. If you do not see a pool or spa setup that looks like yours please click here Jandy Valve Plumbing Schematics for more plumbing schematics.
