Pool Cleaning Accessories

Every pool owner wants the same thing: sparkling blue water. A little elbow grease and some helpful swimming pool cleaning accessories work in conjunction with the sanitizing chemicals in your pool water to keep it all clean.

The first thing you want to make sure you have is a swimming pool telescopic pole. In fact, you'll probably want more than one since everything we discuss in this section attaches to a telescopic pole. This is an extremely handy pool accessory that will help you to reach even the deepest part of your pool and clean it effectively. You don't want to be without one of the most basic accessories, the leaf net. Sometimes called a leaf skimmer (not to be confused with the skimmer in your pool wall), leaf nets attach to a telescopic pole and are used to remove leaves and debris that have invaded your pool. The leaf net is useful for skimming the surface of the water to catch insects as well. You can also use your leaf net to scoop up toys and other things your kids might have left (or lost) in the pool.

Another innovative accessory is the Leaf Bagger which connects to a garden hose and a telescopic pole. When you turn on the water, it creates a vacuum that pulls leaves and other debris off the floor of the pool. These are trapped inside the leaf bag which can be emptied and reused. This is a convenient tool for clean up in the spring when you're opening the pool or to catch autumn's leaves when you didn't get that winter cover on as soon as you meant to. A telescopic pole will attach to a vacuum head as well. Vacuum heads are available for vinyl liner, fiberglass and concrete pools. These use the suction from your skimmer to suck up debris. Be sure to get the correct one for your pool type as they are designed differently based on the surface of the pool.

Usually, the hose is purchased separately and is available in different lengths depending on your pool size. You can use a vac hose reel to keep your hose untangled and to prevent anyone from tripping over it. Another option for vacuuming your pool is a Pool Buster cleaner. This is a battery-operated, rechargeable cleaner that can be hand held to reach tighter spots such as steps and will attach to a telescopic pole for greater reach. The Pool Buster has a filter bag inside that can be removed and cleaned once filled with debris. One of the advantages of the Pool Buster is that it's self-contained and requires no long hoses to be attached to your skimmer.

When fully charged, this cleaner will run up to one hour. For proper pool maintenance, it is recommended that you brush the walls and floor of the pool once a week. You can purchase brushes in different widths that attach to the end of a telescopic pole, or a brush that comes complete with a pole already attached. Pool brushes can also be used to clean your deck and patio. The Brumgee model has a handy squeegee built in for thorough cleaning.
