DOES THE SPIDER GASKET GET GLUED IN? IF NOT WHAT KEEPS IT FROM MOVING?

Hello Richard, yes these spider gaskets will need to be glued into the valve. You can use Loctite or clear RTV silicone. Please see this how-to guide called "How to Replace a Spider Gasket on a Multiport Valve" that may also assist.

Screwdriver, Object to remove the old gasket. I used a narrow pick
Being pretty knowledgeable about how things worked, I attempted to take apart my pump valve body to see why it was so hard to turn the handle from PUMP to BACKWASH. After loosening some screws, I removed the top to find the spider gasket worn and broke from dry-rot or whatever causes it. I called the INYO people and spoke to a representative. He walked me through the model I had and found the gasket. I was also sent a lube to use on it and it was very easy to install. Hardest part of the fix was to scrape and clean the grooves where the old gasket sat and basically came apart and stuck to. But again, the staff was helpful and sent me this part quickly. I would say anyone able to turn a phillips screw driver can fix this issue before calling a pool company in to get hosed.
