Hello Brian - This is a cover for the solar blanket when it's rolled up on the reel. This would be used if you plan on leaving the solar blanket rolled up for an extended time.

Is the solar tarp something that you would use for short-term coverage in summer months and a solar blanket something you would use for longer-term and winter storage?

Hello Brian, The Solar Tarp is a tough rip pool woven polyethylene cover fastens around your solar blanket with Velcro strips. It keeps the sun off your blanket when it is rolled up on your reel. Since the sun is the most damaging element to your blanket, it can double the life of your solar blanket. The solar tarp is not an alternative to a solar blanket. The tarp will only protect your BLANKET when it is rolled up on a reel and covered with the tarp.
