Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
 Reply

Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

What size pump would I need for this heater? Is 3/4 hp enough. Also is this big enough for an 18x36 inground?

I would suggest a 1hp pump ( depending on the size of the filter you have ) The filter has a max Gallons Per Minute. The heater would work with a 3/4, but you may not get the water turn-over required for that many gallons. Also, the larger the BTU's, the quicker the water will heat. 300,000 is plenty, as long as you have some form of heat retention - like a solar blanket of a liquid solar blanket call Cover Free. It works as good as a solid blanket without the hassle.

Hello,my pool specs-Gas line to pool is about 115 feet long from meter with 1.5 inch pipe to pad and 1 inch to old heater. WhisperFlo pump w/1.5 HP AO Smith B842 motor (WPE -6). 47 feet head Power available is 230 v to the old heater Pool is 16x36 avg depth 5 feet Filter is Aquatec - FNSP 48 Do you see any required flow, power, or natural gas that would limit replacing my burnt out Rheem with this system.

Johnny, You'll need to have a 1.5" pipe size for the gas supply to the unit and a manual bypass installed in order to have the MasterTemp Heater 300,000 BTU, NG w/ Electric Ignition, Low NOx installed. You can find all this information in the Pentair Heater Mastertemp Owners Manual.

Hi Shane, Have you given Pentair a call, it sounds like an electrical part has gone bad?
