Yes, the valve can be mounted vertically. The flow of the water must be moving up. The flow of the water cannot be moving down.

Hello Graham. The Custom Molded Products 2" x 2 1/2" Check Valve 90 Degree is compatible with 2" PVC plumbing. The 2" PVC pipe attaches to the port's inside (female socket). A 2 1/2" PVC pipe would fit over the port.
