I've just replaced my housing gasket because I had quite a water leak. The new gasket also leaks. Is there one way the gasket should go on? Or is there something else that could be causing the leak? Water is coming out at a pretty good clip.

Have you checked the shaft seal yet? The shaft seal is located behind the impeller and if it leaks it will come from the union where the motor bolts to the pump. Shaft seals depend on the pump model.

I have an older Challenger pump with 35-5188 diffuser. I need to find out how to tell whether I need a round o-ring or square o-ring for both the diffuser and the housing. I ordered the GO-KIT5 that contains both round o-rings. The pump has been serviced multiple times by various people and not sure if round is correct versus square….I have found both types in the used parts box. Thanks

Hi John, The Diffuser (35-5188) is used on the Pentair Challenger High Pressure Pumps. The round o-rings not the gaskets are used with the high pressure pumps.

Unscrew the clamp holding both halves of the pump together. Remove the old gasket. Lubricate and install the new gasket. Reattach both halves of the pump and tighten with the clamp.

Does the Gasket housing 35-5329 have a round or square profile.
I recently installed a new motor on my Challenger pump and used the Gokit5, but the round gasket in the kit didn't work and I need the square gasket.

The gasket is not square, so my question is does the longer edge get installed against the front housing or the short? It does not seem to fit 100% tightly with the thinner edge, but also does not seem to fit perfectly the other way either.
The one that came off the pump was the square cut one as well, but I am wondering if even that one was the correct one...

Hi, Chris. The short side of this gasket is placed against the volute. It will seal once the two halves compresses the longer side of the gasket.

Squealing bearings in pump motor. I pulled pump motor (challenger IIHS, 1HP) and rebuilt with new bearings. I learned how to do this as a kid working at a bowling alley. When replacing, I always replace the two O-rings on the pump (both are the square variety) and the sleeve bearing for the motor. Makes quick work and no leaks!
Quiet as a mouse again.
Less than 1 hr
None
Turn pump off
Drain water from pump
Remove big clamp around housing
Seperate pump from strainer housing.
Remove o ring from front of pump and replacewith new one.
Marry pump back to strainer
Put clamp back in position lining up with arrow
Tighten clamp
Fill strainer with water to help prime pump
Turn pump on and check for leaks

Pros: Right parts and right customer service.
Cons: Warehouse mistake, but immediate fix--no hassle.
I have an older Pac Fab pump and impeller set up--pre 1990. Local CA pool supply says can't get parts--so sorry. Inyo has parts and says no problem. Gasket shown is square while my older equip needs round gasket. Look close at pic. Inyo has both in stock. Square arrived instead of round. Called Inyo--no prob--correct part arrived 5 days later, no charge, no questions asked. Both parts and customer service--top drawer.

An absolute must to replace this every spring, or when doing a rebuild. Also need to know which pump model you have, because there is also a round gasket, which will not work in my Challenger II pump.
