Pool pump screamed

Written on 5/9/2020 by Guest

First we checked out videos on how to repair pump and replace ball bearings. Then we searched for parts and compared costs for a new pump.

Decided to try as we had nothing to lose. First we turned power off and then disconnected power source to motor. Then we started unscrewing parts and taking photos for reference later. Did this during COVID work at home days.

Took it apart and found this copper piece that didn’t begin to look like this. We needed to replace it. That delayed us from completing our task. I actually was looking at motors as it seemed hopeless that we would get this fixed.

Finally found what we needed, ordered it. Cleaned what we could and put back together and ended up placing on kitchen table on an old towel. Covid dinners in front of tv since the motor sat there for a week.

Bought floating chlorine things to help preventing pool from turning too green. Once the part came we got it added and then reconnected with the help of the photos. Fingers crossed turned it n and it hummed beautifully. It was a husband/ wife project and we did it!

I had my moments that it might not work but figured we had nothing to loose. Getting ball bearings off was difficult without a special tool but we created our own with a vise and clamps and hammer. If we had all the parts we could have done this in 4 hrs.

Took almost 2 weeks just because we do work too. I was so proud of us! Only took 1 day to get pool sparkling again
