I have a hayward sand filter that is 4 years old and the sand was coming out in the pool a sales person at watsons told me the tube inside was cracked and it is but the problem is the number on the piece doesn't match any of the parts I have looked up on line what will work ?

I had unions installed to remove the top of sand filter, shop-vac to get sand out, rinsed it, added water, then sand and greased the top valve fitting, used a mallet and it works like new. videos on here helped tremendously.

Pros: If you're not handy with tools, get a pro pool man.
This is not an easy task but very straight forward. Top valve, sand and water removal. Then fold up the fingers on old lateral and remove. Put the new lateral in place and open out the fingers. Put centering device on tube and replace sand. Remove centering device and replace top valve. Reconnect all piping and fill with water. Lesson: "Winterize and don't let the filter freeze!!"

We are very pleased with this. The new design is much better. The arms on the new one gold up making it much easier to put sand in and to take it out if necessary.
