If I am currently on chlorine do I have to drain pool or anything, or can I just install salt generator and check/adjust levels? I will be reopening pool in 2 weeks after the winter and am considering buying this. Also will other brands of cells work with this model or only crystal pure?

No you do not have to drain the pool for salt systems can just be added to regular chlorinated swimming pools. Then salt will need to be added. The same manufacturer model cells need to be used on this system.

Currently I use a de filter system I here about salt water what are the advantages of this system versus standard chemicals that I use. does it reduce the amount of chemicals needed?

These salt water systems daily generate chlorine for your pool so you would not need to use shock treatments, tablets and reduce the algae blooms as long as the system works well. You do still need to monitor all the other chemical levels in the pool and your acid usage will increase with these systems.

Hi Darryl, The warranty for the Crystal Pure Salt System does cover purchases in Canada. If you had a warranty issue typically you would contact the manufacture directly by phone and they would try to troubleshoot any of the problems. If a new system was needed then the salt system would be covered by the terms of the warranty however any of the shipping charges are not covered under the warranty so you would be responsible for those. Normally if you have an issue right out of the box or very shortly after the purchase we will cover any of the shipping charges as an act of good will.

Hi Darryl, Typically when we ship to Canada we use UPS and you would be responsible for any customs, brokerage, duties or taxes at the border. We could ship via US Mail but you would need to call in to request this, I would ask for Andy at Extension 716. With US mail you would still pay some of these fees but I believe the brokerage fees are much less than UPS.

Ron, Yes you can replace your Jandy Salt System with this unit. A licence contractor is required by the manufacturer to main warranty.

I received my generator today and noticed that it uses 2 inches connections. My current set-up uses 1.5 connections. Is there a problem using 1.5 piping to feed the flow meter and salt cell. Also on the cell it suggests mounting it vertical but all the pics show horizontal, which is right. Thank you

Hi Darryl, It is not a problem going from 1-1/2" up to 2" so you will be fine, we would not suggest going from 2" down to 1-1/2" plumbing. Normal installation on the salt cell is horizontally and you would be fine installing the cell either horizontally or vertically. We just did a guide on How to Install a Crystal Pure Salt Chlorine Generator and second guide on How to Operate a Crystal Pure Salt Chlorine Generator, I think both guides would be very helpful on a new installation.

Have 1.5 inch plumbing. What is the preferred method of installation. Convert 1.5 to 2 inch plumbing for cell and flow switch and reduce back to 1.5 inch pipe for connection to valve? Or Should i use reducer's at each connection. IE 1.5 inch connection to cell and 1.5 converter for 2 inch flow switch?

Hi Brandon, I would use a reducer from the 1 1/2" piping to the 2" cell, use 2" piping to connect the 2" cell to the 2" flow switch, then use another reducer from the 2" flow switch to your 1 1/2" piping. Hi Rod yes this will work for a abovr ground pool. The kit included in the salt chlorinator provides the necessary plumbing components for 1 1/2-1 1/4?(38-32mm) flexible hose connections for above ground pools.

Hi Gerard this salt system would be compatible with a Hayward heat pump and would not corrode your heat pump. You just want to make sure you plumb the salt system after the heat pump.

This system is not too small for your pool. It is always better to have some extra salt system capacity for swimming pools.

Most newer models of salt cells are now equipped with a polarity reversing mode that reverses the charge on the plates and causes the salt build-up to de-bond from the metallic plates. This is a giant leap forward in salt chlorine systems, and will handle most of the routine salt cell maintenance. However, scale build-up can still occur, and even on systems that are "self-cleaning" (like your kitchen oven) - you will still need to do a proper cell cleaning. Just perhaps not so often. In areas of hard water; Arizona comes to mind, polarity reversal may not be able to keep up with the deposits, and may not be able to win the battle.

just installed one of these and am concerned about the variable speed Hayward pump reducing the flow rate when it drops the rpm and is that going to mess up the chlorine production ? Ps u mite mention that when matching one of these up with a variable speed pump they will have to put it on a separate timer as there is no way to wire it into the pump built in timer and program

Hi Tom, The Pool Salt System 20,000 Gallons will require a separate timer, either a Intermatic Timer 110 Volt Metal Enclosure or Intermatic Timer 220 Volt Metal Enclosure depending on your power supply.

I am considering replacing a problematic Aqua Rite system. Will the BW-CL60C cell replace an Aqua Rite T-Cell 15 w/o pipe modification; are the threaded ends the same diameter and thread count?

Hi Paul, The Pool Salt System 20,000 Gallons (BW-CL60) would replace the Aqua-Rite cell with out modifying the plumbing. The T-Cell15 can treat up to 40,000 gallons and the BW-CL60 can treat up to 20,000 gallons.

Replacing an Aqua Rite system with this one. The new system came with the flow switch mounted in a new tee. Can I unscrew the new flow switch and put it in my existing tee? I don't want to break it but I also don't want to cut in a new tee

HI, I installed the flow switch with the wire on the top side of a horizontal pipe, as opposed to the bottom as show in on of the photos! Will this make a difference??

I have a pool that is right at 20000 thousand gallons. My BW-CL60 was purchased on July 2014, the salt cell has gone bad and is no longer under warranty (from what I’ve been told). Can I replace the salt cell with the salt cell that comes with the (40, 000 gal)?

Hi, Oscar. It is not recommended to interchange the cell PART# BW-CL60C with the PART# BW-CL120C. The Crystal Pure 20K and 40K have two different PCB Boards that may not allow for the cells to operate if interchanged.

Hi, The approximate size of your pool is 14,200 gallons (based on the dimensions you provided) and the Pool Salt System 20,000 Gallons will be large enough to accommodate. The Salt System comes with the control panel and salt cell only. It does not come with additional hoses or attachments.

I bought this system new in October 2015 and the salt cell has already gone out just a few months later. Can't find replacement cell for this one. Does anyone else sell this brand? Wish they would stand behind the one year warranty.

We just closed on a Michigan house with a semi-inground pool, ~20,300 gallons. Will this 20k cell suffice? (Looking at the 40k cell, according to pictures you can't see the plates like you can via the see-through piping on the 20k cell, which is a nice feature IMO.)

Hello, For your pool size, I would recommend the 40,000 gallon cell otherwise you will work the smaller cell too hard and it will not last the average 3-5 years.

We want to convert to salt water. The pool is semi-inground and holds 20.5k gallons. Comparing the the two Crystal Pure systems (20k and 40k). I like the 20k as you can see the plates, whereas it appears you can't in the 40k cell. It will be installed electrically with the pool pump timer, so both will run ~11 hours/day. If I size up to 40k, will that generate too much Cl?

Hi dpool2, For either unit you will set the system at a certain % output. So on the 20,000-gallon unit, you have to set the system at 100% meaning the chlorinator will be producing chlorine 100% of the time when your pump is running. For the 40,000 gallon you may set it at 50% meaning the salt system would only be running 50% of the time your pump is running. We always suggest sizing up as you will get much longer life out of your system and if you ever get into an algae situation the larger system can produce more chlorine.

Currently using Hayward equipment with "POOL THING" chlorinator for a 10,000 gallon i/g pool. 2" plumbing. Considering your 20,000 gal as a replacement. This is in AZ so I can expect more frequent cleaning even though your system is self cleaning, correct? Will the conversion require a lot of plumbing changes?

Hi John, This unit will occasionally require an acid bath, the conversion will consist of a complete re-plumb of that section due to the cell configuration.

I was told if I have used chlorine in myour existing pool and chose to go with a salt water system, I have to empty all the water and refill first? I can't find any written proof of this. Can you clarify this issue?

You would not need to empty you pool for any reason to install a salt system. A salt pool is a chlorine pool. The salt system generates chloring so you do not have to add tablets. You will not find any information regarding emptying your pool for a salt system.

Hi Dana, On page 20 of the Pool Salt System Owner's Manual has the steps to recalibrate this unit. "Recalibrating the system by moving the main switch from “AUTO” to “SUPER CHLORINATE” then back to “AUTO”, which makes the memorized salt level the same as the instant salinity."

You're going to be a little over 21,000 gallons so you'd want to go with the 40k salt system. The salt system will rust out all of your steel parts on your pool like the top/bottom plates, top/bottom tracks and everything else that happens to be steel. Resin is the way to go for salt pools.
