we have an above ground 28' round pool with a pentair water sand filter system ; when the filter is running a water leak generates from the valve flange/plastic clamp area - is there a specific size O ring that we should replace?

Deb, You will need to replace the TA30D,35D,40D,50D,60D Valve Body O-ring (350) to keep the filter from leaking.

I'M looking for a sand filter and pump system for a 600-1200 gallons of salt water more or less to keep lobsters alive. Will this work?

This system would be more than enough to circulate and filter 600-1200 gallons of water.

When my pump is running, air is in the bottom filter. Bleeding it off works for a while but the air returns. Also, when we turn the pump off, water shoots up the pool filter. PSI's are fine. We are novices at this. The troubleshooting guide in your manual does not address this. In fact, I am wondering if the gasket on this filter is allowing air to seep in but I can't find where or how to order it on your website. Basket in filter is clean. Any help is appreciated.

Mikki, If you suspect an air leak, it will come from the suction side (pump). I would check the hose in between the pump and skimmer and the pump lid o-ring. You can find replacement parts for your system on this parts page.
