Hello- Under normal operation, the cover poses little risk of melting. Since the cover is made of plastic, though, it could melt if your motor overheats due to a lack of water entering the pump or a motor malfunction. The cover has round clips that attach to the body of the motor. The physical cover itself, does not have direct contact with the motor body.

Hello Mary.  Yes, the Pentair Protective Pool Motor Cover 3050-38 will fit your Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro pool pump.  If the motor's capacitor is located on the top of the motor, a minor adjustment may be required in its positioning but functionally it will be fine.
