Hi, John. The o-ring is placed into the groove on the Pipe Adapter.

Do these unions work for front and top of pump. In other words do they screw on to the males of the pump ???????

Hi Anthony, yes these unions will thread to the male external threads on the pump suction and discharge ports specifically for the Pentair SuperFlo series pool pump.
