What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

What is the distance from your pump to your skimmers so I can calculate the flow rate for you.

hI, I HAVE A MODEL MPRA6D-146L 3/4HP. I need a new water pump, a water pump that replaces this model that I wrote. What water pump do you recommend?

Hi. This PL2072 is the correct replacement motor for your model pump. You will also need the Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Dyna-Glas & Dyna-Max - GOKIT47. If you want to replace the entire pump you can use the PL2601 - PureLinePrime 1HP Pool Pump.

I have loud bearings on my pool pump motor. I am going to attach photos of the motor late and also the pump plate. Can you confirm that this motor will fit and also supply me with the appropriate item # to order the tune up kits so that I may replace the motor myself.

The PL2072 may work but the drop-in motor replacement is the USQ1072

One year ago, I bought this pump and it's already making noise to the point of me needing to replace it. Is it under warranty? It's been under a year, by a couple of days.

Hi, I have an old Duraglas model C48J2PA105. This appears to be the replacement for it. Trying to determine the GPM that my pump generates so I can purchase a waterfall kit on your website. The pump is dedicated for a waterfall ( separate pump for the pool). Pipe run approx. 25'. Pipe is 1.5". Will this pump motor deliver enough gallons per minute for a 24 inch sheer waterfall that is on your website? If too much or not enough, what size waterfall kit do you recommend? Thanks, Peter

Hi, Peter. A Dura-Glas pump with a 3/4 HP motor will be more than sufficient (too large) to operate a 24" waterfall with a 25' run. I will need to know specifics like the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) in order to advise you further.

Hello, see my other email. I did some math. I came up with an approx TDH of 95-98'.

the height the water has to travel up is 30" assuming the waterfall is 24" from top of deck (water level 6" below deck). The inlet pipe to pump is approx 44.5'. The outflow pipe is approx 40.5. There are approx 12 ninety degree elbows, and 3 threaded fittings. I was planning on putting the 24 " waterfall 24" inches from deck. If a 36" waterfall, 36" from deck (does this work?). Can you calculate the TDH in both scenarios?

I have a Pentair pool pump and I need a replacement motor. Ours is screeching pretty bad. The label is very faded and I cannot read the AMPs or the horse power of my current motor. It is a 14,000 gallon pool. I saw online there is a pureline 3/4 HP square flange motor for $114.99. Will that motor be a sufficient replacement? Thanks for any info. Pictures included

Do you have information on the front half of your pump? The best place to find your pump model information is on the pump housing tag. Pool pump manufacturers label each housing with make and model information as well as serial numbers. The pump model number is the golden ticket to finding the proper tune-up kit, so we will want to find that most of all. The tag is usually placed on the side of the strainer basket or near the discharge port for easy access. Model number formats vary depending on the manufacturer but should be marked clearly.https://www.inyopools.com/Blog/pool-parts-101-the-difference-between-a-pump-and-a-motor http://www.inyopools.com/Blog/finding-the-tune-up-kit-for-your-pool-pump/
