What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Hi, How do we tell which seals to purchase with this replacement motor? There is not a label on the front housing.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/12/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello- The seals will be based off of the model of the pump not the motor. If you can not find a label on the front housing we would need to see if we can find a part number on the impeller or pump lid to try to identify the pump. If not you can send a picture to upload@inyopools.com.

I ordered a 5212X motor to replace the motor on my Jandy JHPU 1.5HP pump today which I think is the correct motor. I noted that your 5212X motor drawing shows that it is a CW rotation. My existing motor as viewed looking at the impeller end of the shaft rotates in a CCW manner. Did I order the incorrect motor ? Thanks.

If the model and part number that you have provided has been on the pump for years then yes this is the replacement. If it is brand new and has gone bad then it may have been the incorrect one put on there and you would want to locate the model of the complete Jacuzzi pump to confirm.

The replacement motor would the model UCT1152 and it is recommended to replace the seals and gaskets. For that pump in a chlorine pool the kit is a GOKIT2 and for a saltwater pool, it is the GOKIT2SALT. The capacitor is already in the motor.

It is always recommended to replace the seals and gaskets with every motor replacement. You will need to know the model number of the pump housing that the motor actually bolts to in order to cross-reference that. If you do not have that information you can always email us images of that housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can assist in locating that information for you.

I currently have a 1 HP frame is 56j B228se century motor and it just died. My pool is approximately 20,000 gallons. The motor before it died didn't really circulate the water very well in the pool and we had dead spots. So my question is. If i upgrade to the 1.5 hp motor is it the same size as the 1hp version, just with a higher water flow? Will it fit?

 Reply

A  Answered on 4/20/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Jeremy. Increasing the motor size without changing the internal pump parts like the Impeller and diffuser will not increase the water flow. If your pool has dead spots, you will need to reposition your jets to maximize circulation. You will need to make sure that your filter is large enough to handle the additional water flow. This B229SE will work. Check out our How to Size a Pool Pump guide.

I have this B229SE pump. 5 years ago the pool pump was squealing so the repair guy rebuilt my pump motor and increased the HP from 1 HP to 1.5 HP. I dont know if the impeller was replaced. I have felt that the filtration system de2420 never seemed great, so I have replaced that filter with the hayward de6020. Now this pump motor is loud this year and I want a replacement. What would you recommend as a motor with this larger filter and would I need to replace the impeller?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/25/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi DD, Could you give us the pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation. It would also be important to know if the impeller was changed, ideally if you could pull a part # off of the impeller that would be very helpful. Here is a guide which would show you How to Acess the Impeller there should be a part # embossed in the impeller and that is what we would need.

I have the exact (except for the serial#) label. Not running this morning and smells hot. Is this motor new or rebuilt? And is this motor and gokit2 for a chlorine pool all that’s needed? Would you recommend adding an automatic chlorinator at the same time?

     Reply

    • Commented on 11/4/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

The motors are new, not refurbished or used. Yes, one of the suggested Gokits for the salt or chlorine pool is suggested with a standard replacement. If the impeller, seal plate, impeller ring, and diffuser are at 10+ years it is best recommended to replace those for the optimum performance and life of the new motor. The Rainbow 320 Inline Chlorinator - R171096 is one of the best on the market.

Hello.  Pool pump motors fail for a variety of reasons. Please make certain the replacement motor's total horsepower (THP) is mated to the impeller rating correctly.  An impeller's THP rating should be equal to or less than the motor's THP rating, incorrect pairing can result in a motor's shortened lifespan.  Conventional copper wound motors generate heat during operation.  Shield the motor from direct exposure to the sun if possible.  Maintain good airflow around the motor - keep landscape, leaves, and other material from around the motor's cooling vents.  Shield the motor from rain or landscape irrigation as much as possible.  Keep the filter clean.  A dirty filter results in back pressure that causes the motor to push against this resistance.  Protective Pool Motor Cover - R221016
