I was told by Matt on your chat line link that this would work with a 1 1/2 hp pump but then I read in a previous post that it will not. which is it?

Janice, This 19" Pool Sand Filter Top Mount will not be able to work with a 1-1/2 hp pump.

I have a small pool ~12000 gal and a 1/2 HP Pentair WFE-2, max 4.5 amps, "whisper" pump - is this the correct filter for this pump
Reply
This pump has a total horse power of just under 1 and the filter can handle at maximum 40 gallons per minute of flow. With that said, if the water flow at your pool based on the feet of head falls within this criteria then yes it may work. On the WFE-2 page there is a pump curve that you can refer to.

I HAVE 16'X32' POOL INGROUND WILL THIS FILTER WORK FOR ME?
Reply
Hello, Len. If a pool is a rectangle and has an average depth (ad) of 5.5. We would calculate 16 x 32 x 5.5ad x 7.5 = 21,120 gallons of water. We also need to determine the GPM your Pump will provide. The Filter(s) will have Max Flow Ratings also, this one is 40GPM. If you were to use this filter it will take approximately 10 hours to turn over the water. For better filtration I would best recommend choosing the 24" Sand Filter Top Mount MODEL# BC3060 (or larger). It has a flow rate of 50GPM and would take approximately 8hours to turnover 22,000 gallons of water. You will need to refer to your current Pump's GPM. Also, calculate the pool/spa total gallons of water before purchasing a new filter. Keep in mind the more you turn over the total gallons of water the cleaner the water will be.

my pool is 16x32 and 4 feet deep, I have a 1 hp pump, is this filter ok for my pool?

Hi Barry, If you have an aboveground pool then yes this would be a suitable filter. If this is an inground pool the I would suggest something a little larger like the Hayward S244T Sand Filter.

I have a Doughboy Media Master 1600 (0-1701-016) that I'm looking to replace with another sand filter. What would you suggest (this 19" or a 16")? Or would you suggest something different with a chlorine generator?
Semi-inground 17x34 4' deep with center at 5-1/2' deep (my calcs say ~22,000 gal). I have a 1HP single stage pump and a salt water cell.
The system seems to work well. This is our first full season with this 11 year old system (we purchased house with pool already here).

Hi, Eddie. The Doughboy Media Master 1600 is a 16" sand filter which undersized for a pool that size. This 19" sand filter can filter 22,000 gallons in a 9 hour run time, filters are sized based on the pump's flow rate. If you can get me the flow rate of your pump I can recommend a filter.

Forgot to add in my previous question that my 1HP pump has a max 62GPM

Hi, Eddie. With a flow rate of 62 GPM, I would recommend the Hayward - S244T or the Jacuzzi - L225-7C.

Hi I am going to hook up the filter and my old filter did not have the hose thing on the inside I think it's a air vent ?? Where does this go or is it suppose to just sit on top of the sand inside the filter ??? Thanks

Hello Mike, these air vent tubes are normally located at the top of the filter unit, some can connect around pressure gauge from under the filter.

Do I need to purchase a pump too?
Reply
Yes you would also need a pump, if you do not currently have one. Could you let us know if this being used on an inground or above ground pool, also could you let us know the size of your pool? This would allow us to suggest the proper pump and filter.

Will this filter work with a Hayward PowerFlo 1580 1 HP pump? I have a 22x52 abg pool

Hi. The pump may be too larger for this filter, the max flow rate is only 40 GPM. You will need to determine the pump's flow rate using Inyo's How To Measure Total Dynamic Head With Gauges guide.
