Ronnie, This is a complete salt system (cell and power center). It can be wired for either 230v or 115v. The TCELL15/GLXCELL15 is a replacement cell for the Hayward Aquarite. So if you have a Hayward Aquarite and it is time to replace your salt cell then you would go with the TCELL15/GLXCELL15. If you are looking at replacing your entire salt system then the Crystal Pure would be one of several Salt Systems you could go with. You can view the Hayward Salt System here.

Looking to replace a Polaris autoclear plus salt cell that is discontinued. Does this system work with filter systems and does this include all necessary components like transformer, wires, and circuit board? If so, my pool is 32,000 gallons. Is this the correct system for my size pool?

This salt system would work with all filter types (i.e. Cartridge, Sand & DE) you would not be able to use your current Polaris AutoClear Clus power supply. This system would be a good replacement for the Polaris AutoClear Plus if you were planning on removing the entire AutoClear Plus and replacing that system with a new Salt System. The Crystal Pure 40,000 Gallon system would be a good system for your sized pool and includes all necessary components for installation like transformer, pcb, etc.. You would need to purchase any plumbing supplies like pvc glue, pvc fittings, etc..

Hi Tim, I would suggest going with the larger 40,000 gallon salt system as it will produce more chlorine meaning the salt system will run for shorter periods of time which allow you to get longer life out of your salt cell.

The Crystal Pure Installation Manual shows a vertical option for installing the salt cell. There is no restriction on clearance from the ground. It's more of an issue of getting to it for maintenance.

These are both fairly good model salt systems. Just keep in mind that if it comes to warranty and availability of parts Hayward has been in the United States for many years while with the Crystal Clear it would be an out of country procedure.

I purchased this system and installed it because the price of the complete system was cheaper than replacing my cell. This is my second salt system from inyopools in the past 5 years. I installed it last weekend and it was working fine. This weekend I checked and the low salt and inspect cell lights are on. The pool is still very clear, just as it was when I checked and balanced the water before installing this new unit last weekend. The unit reading says 1900, but it tested 3400. What now?

Note. The factory default display is 3200 ppm. Recalibrating the system by moving the main switch from “AUTO” to “SUPER CHLORINATE” then back to “AUTO”, which makes the memorized salt level the same as the instant salinity. Also you want to check your stabilizer should be at 70 and Phosphates should be at 100 or less.

I have this system. my instant salinity constantly reads 500 ppm below the actual reading which will not allow my salt system to run. recalibrating does nothing when it always reads too low. how do I get the system to read more accurately.

the system will usually give a false reading if the other chemicals in pool are off. Stabilizer should be at 70 and Phosphates should be at 100 or less, make needed adjustments and recalibrate

Hello Jerry, We have the Pool Salt System 20,000 Gallons and the Pool Salt System 40,000 Gallons available. The 20,000 Gal system will work for your pool but there is an advantage to having the 40,000 gal system. The smaller the cell size, the harder the cell has to work to maintain chlorine levels in your pool. This reduces the time frame between replacing the cells and, therefore makes the system less cost effective.

Hello, I have an old autopilot system in the pool which I'm not sure works. This system costs less then the salt cell alone on that. I'm curious if I can use the existing plumbing and just put this salt cell in?

Hi David, You will need to re-plumb the cell, it will not match up with you current set-up. You'll be better off getting a salt system with sense and dispense technology that way it will sync with your chlorine generator. I will recommend the 2" Inline Zinc Anode.

I have a heat pump. Can I use a salt system if I have a heat pump? The reason I ask is that the inner workings of the pump is stainless pipes. Will it corrode the pump?

Hi Billy, Yes you can use a Salt System on a pool with a heat pump. Salt pools use a pretty low parts per million (PPM) of salt, 3,000 PPM Vs. Ocean water which comes in at 40,000 PPM. The main components of the heat pump are titanium or cupronickel which is very heavy duty and holds up against chlorine and salt. All of the major heat pump manufacturers hold their warranty for salt pools just as long as the salt system is installed properly. If you follow the installation instructions in the salt system manual you will be fine.

I have a new Hayward Energy Star variable speed pump that controls the cleaning cycles so I no longer use the old timer system. How would this installation work since there is not connection between the pump and controller anymore to intersect?

Hi Joe, You can wire this system to the timer. Once the pump is running at a speed high enough to activate the flow sensor the unit will begin generating chlorine.

We purchased a house with pool that had a leak in main drain lines. After a year of adding water we finally had the main drain plugged. No more losing water issues and I'm able to maintain clarity with regular chlorine. I will have to add salt bags with no main drain operating, just the skimmer. Pool is 3-9 ft, would the salt dissolve ok?

Hello Karl, yes that would be fine, just add salt one bag at a time (fine grain Salt) into your deep end and let circulate for about an hour, move around with brush if you would like, but it should dissolve just fine.

Other than the system itself we advise to have a ph reducer chemical handy and also pool salt. Also please be advised to make sure the stabilizer/conditioner(cya) level is in par. Be read to occasionally add alkalinity increaser. If you have a heater then you may want to install a check valve between this system and the unit.

How would you wire this up to a VS pump? Specifically a Pentair Superflo VS that does not connect to any type of automation. I just manually use the VS controls on the pump.

What is the length of the flow cell? Please change the stated availability of the PL7700 from 7-10 days to 21+ days. I ordered 3/7/17 and today you advised a 3/27/17 ship date. Hi Don, The PureLine Crystal Pure 3.0 can be used on tile pools. You will just want to keep an eye on your pH because if it gets too high for an extended period of time you can see scaling. You lower your pH by using muriatic acid, this would be the same as any pool regardless if it is salt or not. We put together a Video on How to Maintain a Salt Pool which you may find helpful.

Put a new salt cell in T-15 for larger pools. Turned thing on and the reading was at 2400, cell generating, and running fine. Set the unit to little less than 3000 and went on about other stuff. Kids went swimming yesterday and eyes burned badly, controller now reads hi salt and not generating. reading was 4000. why would it go wildly past the set point of less than 3000. Recalibration maybe????

Hi Carla, We would always suggest upsizing your salt system if your pocket book can afford it. The reason being is that you will get much longer life out of your salt cell, also when you have demanding conditions like an algae bloom then you can produce more chlorine with the larger system. If possible we suggest mounting the cell horizontally.

Hi, Dan. I would recommend a system that can treat 25K - 40K gallons of water. The Crystal Pure 3.0 generator is a great unit. Once you've removed the AutoPilot box you can mount the new controller in its place following the installation instructions provided in the product's manual. The lifespan of a cell is 3-5 years.

I recommend the salt system made for 60,000 gallons, PL7703. If you get the 40,000 gallon system you will be running at 100% all the time and the system will not last as long. Getting the 60,000 gallon system it will not work as hard and will last you longer. As for the amount of salt, it is about a 40 pound bag per 2,000 gallons.

I presently have a Uniclor (Sophisticated System Inc.) It uses salt pellets in the Tub with a Anode with an a specific amp. running thru it. This unit has a Ventura on the return of water line causing a vacuum . This pulls chlorine gas into the pull when the pump is running. I've had this system on my pool for about 15 years. I've replaced the system one already due to wear and tear. Monthly filling the salt pellet reservoir and maintaining the proper acid balance .Do you have suggestions?

I purchased and installed this 40,000 gal system. I have a variable speed pump and a DE filter. I keep getting a "low salt" light and a "check cell" light. I had my water tested by a professional pool store twice and my salt level is 3500ppm. I'm not sure if this is occuring when my pump is running at a low RPM (1700). Is there a minimun flow rate for this system to operate? And should these "lights" correct themselves? I have been having to manually rest the system.

There was a yellow notecard with my system when I installed it yesterday that says the correct cell size must be selected upon start-up, or in the user menu. I see nothing in the user guide or menu that allows me to select this. The system is generating but I want to make sure the correct cell is selected as noted on this card. How do I do this?

Danny, To view the cell size, you can press the diagnostic button 8 times from the default display. For the PL7700, the cell size should be F15. To change the cell size, while you're on the cell size screen, you would move the switch to super chlorinate then back to auto. You would repeat this process until the unit shows the correct cell size.

Hi Jim, Thanks for the question. When you set up your salt system there is chlorine output selector that you will set, this ranges from 0% - 100%. Normally this can be set around 30% - 50% to maintain your pool. This means that if you ran your pump 18 hrs. per day and if the chlorine output selector was set at 50% then you would running the cell for 9 hrs. per day during the summer. You probably could get by with running the cell at a lower chlorine output level than 50% which means it would prolong the life of the cell. The PL7700 has 7,000 hr. cell life with a 2 year warranty and the PL7707 Crystal Pure Heavy Duty has a 10,000 hr. cell life with a 3 year warranty.

My pump motor is a vGreen 165 variable speed motor from century. It is connected to a timer, but the timer is on all the time now (basically a switch at this point) and the program on the pump controls the speed and run-time. So while the 240v circuit is hot all the time, the pump only really runs 8 hours a day. If I connect the PL7700 salt chlorine generator to the timer it would be powered 24 hours a day, but would only have water flow 8 hours a day. Will this type of install work?

Hi Heat, Yes this set up would work just fine. You will set your chlorine output on the salt system and then the salt system will only produce chlorine when the flow switch in the salt cell senses that water is flowing through the salt cell.

Hi Billy, Thanks for the question! You are correct at startup you would broadcast salt into the pool so no barrel is used. The Na and CL are separated when they go through the salt cell which makes the chlorine but after they go through the cell they are rejoined. For a pool your size you would be looking at roughly 900 lbs. of salt at startup. We put together a good Video Showing How a Salt System Works which you should find helpful.

Hi Al, yes you could use the 40,000 gallon unit even if your pool is only 10,000 gallons. An oversized salt system is a good thing since you will have the ability to really crank up the chlorine production if you need to. Hi Laz, The chlorine production is measured in pounds (lbs.) of chlorine per day. And here are those ratings for each unit PL7701 (20,000 gallon unit) = 1.06 lbs. chlorine per day, PL7700 (40,000 gallon unit) = 2.1 lbs. chlorine per day and PL7703 (60,000 gallon unit) = 3.18 lbs. chlorine per day.

Hello, this cell would be fine to use in your pool. The larger the cell is compared to the size of the pool will get you more life out of the cell compared to using a cell that is approximately the same size of your pool. In regards to programming the cell, it can not be programmed down to the size of your 10,000-gallon pool.

Hi, For a 25,000 gallon pool we would suggest the 40,000 gallon system as you can dial it down to a lower chlorine output. This means you will get much longer life out of your salt cell but you always have the ability to really crank up the chlorine production if for some reason you get an algae bloom or have some other demanding conditions that arise.

The amount of circulation will vary depending on the use, the gallons of the pool, and environmental situations. Typically, single speed pumps operate 6-12 hours, if dual-speed or variable-speed they may operate up to 24-hours per day. The control dial on the salt system ranges from 0-100 or 0-10. The dial is controlling the number of hours it is producing chlorine. If the pump is operating 8-hours per day, with the dial at 5 or 50% the system is generating chlorine, 4-hours during that cycle. I want to convert my pool to salt water with the PL770 system. The main motive is to reduce the maintenance requirements (I'm my own pool guy) and was thinking about a pH controller as well. I searched your site and it was very confusing as some of them seemed to be integrated into the salt water controller. Hi Peter, Sorry for any confusion on the website. On my pool I have the Crystal Pure Salt System and I have tested a few different pH systems. What I have landed on and that I like the best is going with something simple like this 15 Gallon Stenner Tank with Acid Pump on this system you set the output on the pump to dose a certain amount of pH to the pool per day for example .3 gallons acid per day. Previously I had an expensive controller which would actually test the pH and then dose the acid based on the pH reading but I had quite a few problems with this system as the probes never read accurately thus under dosing or over dosing the pool. The system that tested the water was really expensive in the $2,000 range and eventually, the controller got fried from a lightning strike. After the controller went out I purchased the basic Stenner System and I am much happier with it.

Intermatic stated the following "If the fireman is wired high voltage (NOT LOW) they could but they need to pay attention to the phasing. The SCG and heater should come off the same breaker". Hi Vic, Many people with a copper heat exchangers use salt with no problem. I have had a salt system with a copper heater exchanger on my pool for 7 years without issue. However a good security policy would be to go with a Sacrificial Zinc Anode The zinc anode sacrifices itself so it takes on any corrosion and not the heat exchanger or any other pool equipment.

The Heavy duty is the same system as the standard but with two main advantages...1. The warranty is 3 year on the Heavy Duty Vs. 2 years on the Standard 2. The cell life on the Heavy Duty is 10,000 hrs. Vs. 7,000 hrs. on the Standard. The extra lifespan on the heavy duty salt cell is due to more Ruthenium coating on the cell plates. Cell life works as follows, say you run your pump 8 hours per day and you set your Crystal Pure to 50% chlorine output then the cell will be running for 4 hrs. per day, thus using up 4 hrs. of cell life per day in this example.

Hi Jeff, Yes you could leave the chlorinator in-line and not fill it anymore, this would allow you to have the chlorinator for any emergencies. The other option would be to remove the chlorinator as some chlorinators like the Hayward really have the plumbing reduce down when water goes through the chlorinator which can put more stress on your pump and affect your flow rate.

Hi, Mike. If you're referring to the cell, it's 13-3/8" in length. I would not consider the Crystal Pure system, top of the line because there are more advanced systems on the market. This would be considered an entry-level system, a basic chlorine generator.

James, A salt system will give you a running average of the salt reading so it will never be an exact match to the reading you would get from a salt test. If the reading is lower than what you are testing, please double check that the cell size programmed to the board is correct. The PL7700 should be programmed to read F15.

We offer the PL7700 Crystal Pure Salt System to be wired either 115V or 230V as some pool equipment pads have 115V electrical service run to it, while others have 230V service run to it. To be clear you do not need to purchase a separate model for 115v and a separate model for 230V, the PL7700 can be wired for either 115V or 230V. There really is not a preference on 115v vs. 230v it is more a matter of which service you currently have run to the pool equipment. Many times people will wire the salt system into there pump timer, so in this scenario you would need to wire the salt system to the same voltage as your pump.

The cell life expectancy does vary depending on usage, chemistry, and model. On the average, they last approximately 3-5 years. There are some that are only under warranty for 1 year hence having a short life span. To determine which model yours is you will need to locate the serial number on the cell and advise us or contact Hayward so they can confirm for you.

I have a Hayward Swimpure 40,000 gal system and the panel seems to have died. It shows my salt level, but the other lights have gone dead. The cell was replaced recently with a generic replacement. This Pureline system appears to have the same cell and plug configuration as my existing system. If I purchase this system will my existing cell be compatible with this system, or should I discard/recycle that cell?

If the Aquarite cell is T3/T9/T15 then any of those cells can fit with this Pureline Crystal Pure salt system control box. Will just need to change cell type to T3/T9/T15 within the PureLine Crystal Pure power supply. Originally we posted that you could not use your AquaRite cell on the PureLine power center but that information was incorrect.

Hi George, the salt cell on the PL7700 has a 7,000 hour life. So if you run the cell at 50% and you run your pump 8 hours per day then you would be running your cell 4 hours per day. If you are in area of the country where you shut down the pool in the winter then you are looking at the following math pool open 6 months or 180 days x 4 hrs. per day or 720 hrs of cell run-time per year. So I would estimate at least 7-8 years for the cell. If you live in area where the cell is running year round then 365 days x 4 hrs. per day or 1,460 hrs. of cell runtime per year. So I would estimate 4-5 years in that scenario.

Hi George, Yes the PL7700 would be what you need. This is both the salt cell and the power supply. You would replace your Hayward power supply and salt cell with the Power Supply and salt cell that come with the PL7700.

I need to replace an existing system and am concerned that your part number is not compatible. Is that the manufacturer part number or the sellers part number?
I am having an in-ground pool installed, but have not started yet. I am acting as the General Contractor so I'm sourcing equipment myself. I have no pool experience unfortunately. My question is about a timer. I have a Pentair 1.5 hp variable speed pool pump with a built-in, programmable control pad that says it can be used to run a salt system. Will I still need a timer for the salt system or can I do without since the pump has a control pad?

Hi Lynn, You would not need a timer. The way I have mine set up is that the power supply for the Crystal Pure is on all the time. The salt system has a flow switch so it will only be generating chlorine when the pump is on and activating the flow switch.

This is really a matter of preference. Some home owners prefer to plumb these in, and others prefer to merely place them in the skimmer basket. If you have plenty of room in your system plumbing lines, then I would recommend plumbing this in.

I have a PL7700 and I can not find how to set the Cell or recalibrate the salt level. I can't understand the values shown on the diagnostic screen. This system is replacing an Aqua Rite from Gold Line of the same 40K capacity. The manual that came with the system is a bit vague.

Hi Art, The Crystal Pure Salt System will work with the Jandy pumps and heaters. If you have a Jandy AquaLink Pool Automation System then you will not get readout on the AquaLink for the Crystal Pure. The Aqua Link will turn the Crystal Pure on and off but you will just not get salt readings on the indoor controller.

Hi Brian, Thanks for the photos! The salt cell is designed to work in either orientation (i.e. it doesn't matter the direction of the cell), the flow switch also can be placed before or after the cell. The main thing is you want to make sure the water is flowing in the same direction as the arrow on the flow switch.

How long should it take for this unit to generate the right amount of chlorine for a 20,000 gallon pool if you're starting from 0 ppm? Salt level - 3700 CYA - 30 ppm I currently have instant conditioner on order and should be getting it in a few days. With the addition of what I have ordered, it should raise my CYA level up to 60ish.

Hi Brian, I think your low CYA is the issue. CYA acts as a sunscreen for your pool as UV rays from the sunlight will consume your chlorine extremely quickly. We suggest that for salt pools that you keep your CYA at 70 PPM. If you are concerned that the system is not producing chlorine then you can set the SCG at 100% and then take a test right at one of your return jets and you should get a chlorine reading.

Ok, so I took a measurement at the jet and I got a decent reading, approx. 1.4 ppm, so it appears to be working. We have had some sunny days so the low CYA level may be my issue. Should I consider adding a supplemental chlorine product to help with low chlorine until the conditioner gets here? Also, at a local pool store, a clerk told me that CYA levels above 30 ppm could be carcinogenic. I looked online but couldn't find anything to substantiate this. Do you know if there is any truth to that?

Hi Brian, You may want to add some supplemental chlorine in the early evening just before sunset this way the chlorine should last and work overnight without the sunlight issue, but you may need to repeat this since the sun will burn off the chlorine in the day. If you do get some algae formation then we have a good Video on How to Clear a Green Pool you can use this method even if your pool just gets a little cloudy and not green. I have not heard anything about CYA levels above 30 PPM being a carcinogen.

When you have an abnormally high bather load, heavy rainfall, cloudy water conditions, or any other condition which requires that a large amount of purification be introduced, set the Main Switch in the SUPER CHLORINATE position. This electronically “super chlorinates” (shocks) the water for 24 hours (filter pump must be on during this time) or until the power has been turned off, whichever comes first. At the end of the super chlorination period, be sure to put the switch back into the AUTO position.

You can follow these steps to recalibrate your salt level. The very first time you calibrate your system, the display will read “E000.” Once calibrated, the display will show “E***.” If you’ve recalibrated your system before, the display will show your last reading. For example, if it shows E800, then the last time we calibrated the system, you added 800 PPM into the pool. Move the Super Chlorinate switch to OFF. Hit the ‘Diagnostic’ button nine times until you find “E***” on the display board. Move the ‘Chlorine Output’ dial to 100% then down to 50%. The “E” should begin to flash. When you see the ‘E’ flashing, you can set the dial to 0%-50% or 50%-100%. Press the ‘Diagnostic’ button once to set. You are finished when you see “-AA.” This feature will only work with 2019 to present versions of this salt system.

Installed this system recently. Why are the readings on the panel all over the place? They are anywhere from 1800 to 4200 and I get 3600 every time with a drop kit.

There can be a few reasons why the salt level readings may fluctuate after a new installation. One may be due to salt just being added to the pool still needing to both completely dissolve and recalibrate. Also if there is not enough flow getting to the cell it may affect the readings. Lastly, these systems could read up to 300 ppm from the actual water salt level. Please review these possibilities and give us a call if that does not resolve the issue.

Hello, Yes, you can replace your Aquarite T15 with the Pureline PL7700. While the power centers are not the same size, the cells are close in length. The wiring will be similar, however, please pay attention to how many jumpers are on your existing main pcb board. That will determine if you are running 230v or 115v. You will need to position the jumpers in the same configuration when you wire the PL7700.

This is not a drop in replacement for the Autoclear series. The Crystal Pure system has a longer cell.

I have a Pentair Intellichlor IC40 that has run it's course and was thinking of replacing it with this unit. Would it be a direct replacement or is there modifications required to the plumbing?

This is not a drop-in replacement to the Intellichlor however, it has similar dimensions on the cell.

Which direction does the salt cell go? Does the power cord side go towards the pool or the filter? I couldnt find this in the owner's manual.

Eric, when plumbing the cell for the PureLine Pool Salt System 40,000 Gallons the cord would be closest to the filter.

Just received my PL7700 where does the O rings go. I plan to reuse the same unions from my mineral springs , the mineral spring cell has built in o rings on the ends.

Hi, Chuck. The o-ring goes in the Tail Piece that the pvc pipe is plumbed to.

I have an AquaBlue salt system that is slowly dying. Will this be easy to replace my old system with?

The Aquablue cells are shorter than the Crystal Pure cells by approximately an inch so using it would require some replumbing. I would say the difficulty level is moderate to difficult.

When I check my pool salt level with test strip I am at 3500ppm although the PL7700 is displaying 4500ppm and flashing for high salt. I just installed this system two days ago.

Yes that was the first thing I checked. This is my second control box I have as the first had a short on the board and would trip the breaker. I have had the water professionally tested as well and it aligns with the salt level of my test strip which is 1000ppm below what the control box is showing.

will this system replace the pentair chlorinator system ---meaning can i just unscrew the old and screw in the new? and do i need to plumb in the inline switch or is it needed . the pentair system doesent have a flow switch. if not can you suggest a salt system that is a replacement for the pentair. thanks

I recently purchased and installed the PL7700. Just added salt to the pool and when I turned the unit on the check salt and check cell lights came on. Is this normal? Also some of the numbers on my LED screen isn’t clear. Some of the - - are dim. Was this a refurbished unit I was sent?

Hi, Alton. Have the pool water tested to determine the actual salt level of the pool and compare it to the system.

The flashing check salt/ inspect cell light is a periodic reminder to inspect the cell, clean if necessary, and test your salt level. Once completed, when the system is running, hold down the black diagnostics button to the side of the LCD screen for approximately 5 seconds and it should clear the flashing light.

I am opening may pool and have the pureline system Does it matter which direction the water flows throw the T cell?

Hi, Howard. The T-Cell can be installed so that water can flow through either direction.
