What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Hi Louie, This SQ1052 or the UQC1072 can be used as replacements for the K48J2PA105C1 motor. The shaft seal and o-rings will also need to be replaced which can be found on the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas and Max-E-Glas Parts page.

My motor is a Centurian AOS 7-168451-24 and this motor list it as a replacement for it. The nameplate list on my is a P56Y frame and yours states it is a 48 frame. Which is correct?

Hello- The SQ1052 A.O. Smith 1/2 H.P Square Flange Full Rate Motor is 48Y which is interchangeable with the 56Y models. The only difference is the barrel of the motor is 1" in diameter smaller so you may need to raise it on your motor stand.

My Waterfall pump is a AO Smith Model # C48J2PA105C1 which is a 3/4 hp pump.
The Inyo crosses it up to a Century C48J2PA105C4 which is a 1/2 hp pump. Is this correct?

Is a Starite A100CL motor the same as a A100CL2? What's the difference between a Type C and Type B ?

Hi. They're different versions of the A100CL motor, the last number or letter will determine the specific replacement. This SQ1052 could be used as a replacement, however, I can't confirm. The motor type is a code for the electrical design of the motor. So the difference could be that one could be the type of wire, terminal board, capacitor etc. I'm not exactly sure. Hi, Karen. The total hp is the difference between the SQ1052 and USQ1052. Check out our How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated guide. Also, the ESQ1052 motor is similar to the SQ1052 motor which is manufactured by Nidec.

Looking to replace a PacFab 35-5371 with a Century Q1052. What do I need to upgrade to the two speed Century? Also will the 1/2 hp but up to snuff as the old one is 3/4 HP. Thanks
Hello Peter. The Century Motors model Q1052 is a square flange, THP 0.95, 48Y frame single-speed motor. The Centurion Motor model 8-168451-24 is a square flange, THP 0.94, 56Y frame single-speed motor. The more appropriate single-speed replacement motor is the Century Motors model B2846, square flange, THP 0.975, 56Y frame single-speed motor. Century 1/2 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate Motor - B2846 - B846 The Dual Speed option is the Century Motors model B2981, square flange, THP 1.25, 56Y frame dual speed motor. Century 3/4 HP Square Flange 56Y Dual Speed Full Rate Motor - B2981 The Dual Speed motor would require the installation of a dual speed timer. Pool Timer Dual Speed Pump Timer - T106R
